Great Blue Heron
Great Blue Heron
The Great Blue Heron is the largest North American heron. It has head-to-tail length of 36–54 in, a wingspan of 66–79 in, a height of 45–54 in, and a weight 4.0–7.9 lb. Herons typically eat small fish but are opportunistic feeders and will eat shrimp, crabs, insects, rodents and other small animals. I captured this photo along the Indian River in Melbourne, Florida.

This is an awesome closeup, Roger! I was never able to get close enough to the herons in PA to get a shot like this - I'm once again totally jelly! Speaking of, I should dig out one of my shots for the contest today -thanks for the brain nudge!
Thank you Traci! I would love to say there was some skill involved, but the heron here seem to be fairly tame. They let you get a little closer than at other places I've been. It's a popular fishing spot were the heron and egrets steal fishermen's bait for an easy meal! LOL! It's a great location for photos!
Just because your models were docile (say that three times fast - LOL!) doesn't mean there wasn't skill involved. And still jelly. 😂
Love your clear photography of the bird @rwedegis birds are fascinating, always learning something new and interesting in nature around the world.
