Introduction and Intention

For the Eyes of the Steemit Community,

Hello everyone! I want to start posting on Steemit everyday by beginning with an introduction of myself. I’ll spare you the boring details, but perhaps you’d like to know my name is Rusty Allen Jernigan, and I live in Nashville, TN. We Americans love our labels for the myriad tasks filling our waking hours, and I’d like to share with you all some that distinguish myself, knowing fully that we are all much more than labels can classify. Hopefully, you can gain a general picture of who I am.

I am a composer of classical music.
My love is not the destination but the journey to the destination. Months elapse as musical ideas ruminate in my mind. Many hours are spent sitting at the desktop (from which I am writing you now) germinating, notating, orchestrating and editing the works that end up taking from 3-30 minutes to elapse. I hope to share with you the next masterworks of our era. Knowing everything will not be the “next best thing” from the start, I am committed to creating uncompromising, daring, and adventurous experiences with sound that somehow worm their way into your mind and stay with you. You might hum the melody and not realize where it comes from, and If that happens to you, then I’ve done my job.

I am a composer of electronic music.
I am involved in turning real world found sounds into sound design samples. Some of these sounds never make it into works I create, but through listening to the soundscapes I'm living around, every now and then I'm inspired by the surprising sonorities and motivated to sculpt them into what I would consider beautiful compositions. I’ll definitely be writing posts dedicated to introducing them to you wonderful people. I hope you will find them to be new and exhilarating when the time comes. Electronic music is a broad category, so I’d like to say here that my music created in this category ranges from beat production to the avant garde.

I am a singer.
My earliest memory of being a musician is singing in front of a large group of people. . . well, by "large crowd" I am talking 300 people, but when you are debuting at the age of 5, 300 people feels like a large group. Ha! Anyways, I am a classically trained lyric tenor. The highest note I’ve ever graced in full chest voice was an Eb 4. I live in both the classical and contemporary music scene equally with regard to singing. Some of the compositions requiring voice I’ve created have been performed by yours truly. Of all the things I am preparing to share with you, I am perhaps most excited to share my voice.

Segueing from the professional stations in my life now, I think its important to share my hobbies and general interests as well. I love reading philosophy and am committed to engaging in conversations about anyone from Plato to Neitzsche. I have also recently kindled an interest in the esoteric knowledge from mystery schools. There’s some really fascinating ancient truths to be discovered these days! Hopefully we all can awaken to the fact of the meaning of life is raising the vibration of our unique consciousness. I journal avidly and fairly consistently. I haven’t been able to separate myself from the Nintendo Switch since March 3rd 2017. There’s so much of Zelda: Breath of the Wild I haven’t discovered even after over 225 hours of gameplay! I am the definition of an audiophile. There are people who play the same song over and get a high from hearing it over and over, but I get my music fix by daily listening to new songs. I rarely find a song that I need to hear over and over myself, but the one that I get excited to hear in the morning these days is “Go Gina” by SZA. Might not seem like the song a classical composer in the 21st century would go for, but I’m addicted to her vocalizes and amazing, soulful musicality. Gotta love those finger cymbals in the production as well!

I plan to become a valuable addition to this community beginning today. I hope to curate genuinely interesting, informative and useful information to Steemit. I vow to blend my personality into every post I create. I also vow to only contribute to you when what I have is worthy of a few minutes of your life. Because life is finite, every second we have is precious. Even if no one reads what I have to say here, I can rest well every night knowing that I’m creating content to the highest standard I can personally meet, and knowing that alone creates value in what I hope to get out of giving to Steemit.
