I Painted My Front Door Yellow
I Painted My Front Door Yellow
This past weekend I decided to paint my front door yellow. Another Steemian @emmyem84 occasionally does posts about DIY projects she does and I always enjoy her posts so decided I'd share mine.
I'm a big fan of doing things a bit out of the ordinary and I like bright vibrant colors, they really have a way of putting me in a good mood. I also really like island styles and Southern sorta styles. Whenever i'd visit my folks in Charleston South Carolina I'd always see really cool colored doors and shudders. There's actually a neat street called Rainbow Row where it's just all these cool colored houses.
Well in Chicago those things aren't quite as common as our seasons and general style of the region doesn't really cater to the same types of colors and styles you see down south or even on the islands of the caribbean, none the less I decided to go for it anyways.
My girlfriend and I headed to Home Depot and settled on a color. One thing that always surprises me is paint samples on swatches never look quite the same as they do after you paint. This can be a combination of the lighting, how the paint looks dried as opposed to a swatch and also in large part because it's hard to picture a postage stamp sized swatch as being a large part of a wall or door. Me and my girlfriend settled on a color. We both questioned whether we should have gone for a bit more of a muted color but said what the hell.
I got home, taped off the door and started painting. Initially I was like wow, this looks like a motherfucking school bus, however it slowly started to grow on me and as the paint dried it had a bit of a different color to it as well. In the end it took a few hours to grow on me but against the powdery old pickup truck blue of my house I actually really like the contrast and really like how it looks. Now in the summer time it's very fitting, when winter comes and I have 2 feet of snow on my porch a yellow door may not make quite as much sense.
That said I'm pretty happy with my work, I like the color, when I come home I'm greeted by a happy yellow color and it just puts me in a good mood. I have 3 other exterior doors and am thinking about doing each one a different funky color...
I think the yellow color gives a touch of personality to the door, it looks very nice. It is normal that at first we have doubts and things do not go as we imagine, but little by little our perception can change. More than anything when you leave a bit of the usual. What other colors had he proposed for the door?
I'm sure the missing exterior doors can get a nice result like this one. You can play a little with your ingenuity!
Nice!
It looks good. It is a good color combo.
The painting is perfect
