Kizil Kule Red Tower

Kizil Kule Tower is the symbol of the Alanya so when you come here, you must visit this tower.

Kizil Kule attracts not just tourists but many local people to come to visit this place as it has a big historical story behind this.

The Red tower was built by the order of Alaeddin Keyqubad in the 13th century. It was used as a defense tower.

Here is his vow to use the Red Tower to protect the harbour:

Alaeddin Keyqubad I, the Seljuk ruler, to Ebu Ali Reha el Kettani who was a master builder from Aleppo in order to protect harbor, shipyard and Alanya Castle against attacks from the sea.

How To Get there

You go along the highway that drives along the shore of Mediterranean Sea.

Far away, you will see a sea port with the Red tower standing tall.

It is quite a monumental view.

You will see this solid octagonal tower that attracts your attention.

On the street level, you will find a sign leading you to the Kizil Kulu.

Sea walk along the shore

You can see that the Red Tower is built on a bedrock at a sloping ground.

The structure has 33 meter on the east side and 3 meter shorter on the west side.

So at the bottom of the main walls, rectangular limestone were used.

You can take a stroll along the sea wall to enjoy the breeze that comes from the Mediterranean Sea.

Red Tower Exploration - Complex plan

When you get to the red tower, you can explore inside the Red Tower.

Did you know that this tower can hold 2000 men during the siege.

Forty soliders actually lived here in the second gateman.

There are quite a few exhibitions inside to explore.

With its octagonal plan, Red Tower has a complex plan.

There are 5 floors.

With such high stone steps, you will see large cisterns placed at the upper part of the center of 1st floor.
