Travel Diary. Argentina Part IV
The exclusive Recoleta area gives us a magnificent day
Day 4: August 07th
We woke up early that day, prepared our breakfast and set out to take a tour of the splendid area of Recoleta.
The first point to visit was the Recoleta Cemetery. It might seem unconventional to consider a cemetery as part of the travel itinerary, however, right there was the Eva Perón’s mausoleum, an emblematic personality who was and still is very loved by the Argentines, so that fact made it a place of tourist interest.
I remember that while we were in the cemetery, we noticed that it was home to a bunch of friendly cats, which seemed to be well cared for, because they were quite fat and hairy. It must be said that they attracted the attention of tourists, who did not hesitate to take photos of them, and we would not be the exception.
After leaving, we took a tour of the Chabuca Granda promenade in the Recoleta square, near the cemetery; there we could take a break while enjoying some dried fruits. Next, we entered the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Church, located just in front of the square, where we visited a religious art museum.
In the surrounding area, there was a huge tree, known as the Recoleta Gomero (rubber tree), which was very striking and beautiful, as well as some other large trees in the area, to which we took pictures. Then, we passed by the Palais de Glace, headquarters of the National Palace of Fine Arts.
We continued the tour around the Recoleta walkway, passing through the University of Buenos Aires Law School and the National Museum of Fine Arts, as well as the Recoleta Cultural Center.
It was time for lunch, so we went to the Recoleta Mall to eat. Later, one of my companions wanted to go to a beauty salon and we accompanied her. I remember that when leaving the salon, some guys, very respectfully, told us compliments and we took some pictures with them, they were quite funny and friendly. The rest of the afternoon would be kind of quiet.
That one had been a very active and busy day; so we had dinner and went to sleep, to regain strength and be ready for the following day.
