# 698 - Bicentennial Eagle
Today I will show you the Bicentennial Eagle from Tri-State Refining.
It was also bought in Orlando, FL, a few weeks ago, for less than a dollar over spot price.

"In 1973, Robert Hoff married Linda Opdahl and began working with Linda's father, Opdahl, at Sioux Fertilizer Company in Hawarden, Iowa. That same year Opdahl started a small business extracting silver from X-ray and other film products. The business prospered. In 1976, Opdahl purchased a gas-fired smelting unit and moved it to his farm near Hudson, South Dakota. Hoff managed Tri-State throughout this time.
In 1978, at the urging of several associates, Opdahl placed his property into three trusts, with Opdahl named as trustee on each. The first trust, Sioux Enterprises, consisted of the fertilizer business in Hawarden. Opdahl placed the refining business into a second trust known as Tri-State Refining Company. Finally, Opdahl placed the Hudson farm into a third trust, the Apaloosa Company."

I am not used to American LCSs, but I bought it in a very small LCS in Orlando, along with two or three more rounds, all with this kind of "newness". They look so new that maybe they are fakes...I tested them for weight, size, density and magnetism. It is silver.

I love to learn more about obscure refiners just those that made this round, its blogs like this and @stokjockey 's got me looking for vintage bars when I come across a coin store.
This makes Stacking into an Academic discipline.

When I was working in the graphic arts our film processors had Silver recovery tanks built into them. There was a lot of money made extracting this Silver!👍
I knew that silver had a part in photos and films, but I did not know about recovery tanks. Do you have an idea of how much was recovered each day, on average?

This was when Silver was about $12.00 per Oz. and the large printing co I worked for averaged $4,000 to $7,000 a year in recovered Silver!👍
