# 514 - Canadian Commemoratives - Part 20
In 2017 the Royal Canadian Mint issued a series called "Iconic Canada".
Today I will show you the "Iconic Canada : The Grizzly Bear".
It is a 2017 $20 CAD that weights 31.39g (1oz) with 99.99% silver purity and Proof finish.
Its mintage was only 4,000 units and the issue price was $113.95 CAD.
A mighty icon of Canada’s majestic wilderness, the grizzly (Ursus arctoss) is a cornerstone of its ecosystem; a master in its habitat; and an omnivorous contributor to nature’s delicate balancing act. Though berries and plants comprise a large portion of its diet, the wise grizzly is most famously associated with the salmon that provides it with vital nutrients, as depicted on this fine silver coin.
Slowly moving along the rocky shores, our grizzly patiently waits while staring down into the water; one of its powerful forepaws is raised, its claws ready to swipe a nutrient-rich meal from the stream. The selective application of tinted translucent enamel adds a bluish hue to the gently lapping waters, as though reflecting a cloudless sky overhead. The enamel’s glistening quality also infuses the design with light, while allowing a glimpse of what lies beneath the water: the migrating salmon, which are the objects of the grizzly’s scrutiny.
The obverse of the coin features the well known effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
