# 1391 - Native American Dollar - Part 2
Most of the info below came from https://nativeamericandollars.com/
The Native American Dollar coin series launched in 2009 to honor the contributions and accomplishments of Native Americans. Each year, a unique reverse design representing a different theme has been paired with the popular obverse design featuring Sacagawea.
The reverse design for each year is to be emblematic of one important Native American or Native American contribution. To the extent possible, the design themes are to be issued in the chronological order in which the Native Americans lived or the events occurred.
The 2010 coin featured a reverse design based on the theme “Government – The Great Tree of Peace.”
The Iroquois or Haudenosaunee Confederacy was formed by the Peacemaker and his spokesman Hiawatha to bring together five separate nations in the southern Great Lakes area. The treaty was sealed by symbolically burying weapons at the foot of a Great White Pine, whose 5-needle clusters represented the original 5 nations Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca.
Proof coins were also minted and this is the scope of this series. All are PF-70 UC graded by NGC. As with all modern proof coinage, the coins feature a cameo finish with frosted raised design elements and mirrored background fields.
The coins were made of 88.5% Copper, 6% Zinc, 3.5% Manganese and 2% Nickel and their weight is 8.1g.
NGC graded 6,222 2010 $1 "Great Law of Peace" Proofs, with 1,569 as PF-70 UC. 1,689,216 coins were minted in San Francisco.
I bought this coin in 2013 for $26.50 and today's price is around $60.00.
The reverse design of the coin features the Hiawatha Belt, which is a visual record of the Haudenosuanee. The Great White Pine is shown as the central figure of the belt, also representing the Onondaga Nation. Four square symbols to each side represent the remaining four nations of Mohawk, Oneida, Cayuga, and Seneca. The belt encircles five arrows, showing the strength in unity. The reverse was designed by Thomas Cleveland.
The obverse design, featuring the portrait of Sacagawea and child, was designed by Glenna Goodacre.
