Utopian-io got hacked but no STEEM was lost, here is how much BTC, ETH and XEM got hacked? How powered up STEEM (SP) is the safest wallet in cryptocurrency.
MtGox hack was the most prominent hacking story in the Cryptocurrecny history. There ware allegedly 850,000 bitcoins hacked claimed by MtGox. At that time it was $460 million dollar and at current price of BTC at $10000, it mere $8.5 billion dollar or 8.5 times larger than STEEM's market cap.
However, the largest hack was at dollar amount was hacking of large amount XEM coin from Japan's coincheck exchange. It is estimated around $530 millions on that time. XEM was dropped couple of percentages but recovered swiftly.
Another large exchange Bitfinex was hacked in August, 2016 for 13000 BTC or $70M.
Another biggest scandal was bankruptcy of Cryptsy once the largest altcoin exchange. It claimed that it was hacked for 13000 BTC (i.e. valued $7.5M at that time) and begun its demise. Thousands of investors lost their investment.
Ethereum forked due to large hack of around 3.6 million ethers. The fork returned to previous state to nullify the hack.
There were numerous occasions that Bitcoin or Ethereum is hacked from online wallets and even from personal wallets.
There is still no big hacking of STEEM from a large exchange or personal accounts. However, there are few stories about small loss of coins due to hacking.
Interestingly, powered up STEEM (SP) is one of the safest way to store STEEM. It takes 13 weeks to liquidity an account or, at least one week to transfer any STEEM from SP. If a STEEM account is hacked it can be recovered to some extent.
STEEM is currently lagging to top 10 coins. It could be due to utopian-io news or fuss about EOS being STEEM competitor. However, STEEM (powered up STEEM) is one of the safest coins and it has 350 application running on its blockchain. STEEM has bright future, it has overcome first major hack without losing a single STEEM.
