AskSteemit: Should DApp bring their own fund through crowdsourcing or self-funding?

in #steem5 years ago

It looks like some of the DApps are trouble since STINC has undelegate their SP. SInce STINC is a private company with their own ulterior motivation, their support will be always unpredictable. It is like a VC who may withdraw fund on their own discretion. The good thing about that STINC will not ask about profit sharing. Now getting a delegation from STINC, you need to implore them as usual in business. I personally hope that STINC to reduce their holding to current 22% to 10% or even 5% to make it more wider distribution.

The only headache is that they are the only one with access to github repository rather than democratically elected committee. I think in the long run, STINC will relinquent their power to a elected body. But for now, we have to heavily rely on them for development which is not bad or good. In fact, top chains such as XRP, ETH, EOS started as ICOs aka 100% instamined, nobody talk about democracy there, may be due to the fact their pumped up price.

On the other hand, STINC's stake is decreasing by each day due to the debated algorithmic sell.

AskSteemit: Now question is should not DApp bring their own fund through crowdsourcing or self-funding?

Or, a business plan to implore fund from STINC? No business can run without capital and cash-flow with a revenue stream.

If it is non-profit DApp, then it should be designed like that to ask for donation.

I think it should be a mix and balance of both as having “skin in the game” is an important aspect to align incentive structures for success in the long term. However, crowdsourcing is also important to deploy and execute growth strategies for any project. I think the future process will have more accountability attached to crowdsourcing in that funding will be deployed according to successful completion of the roadmap.
