Traveling with Ric, Zernez

in #travel9 years ago

While well out of the way, Zernez a small town on the eastern side of Switzerland happened to be one of my favorites. It wasn't because of the city if I can even call it a city, more like a little village, it was because of the views atop my favorite hike I have ever done. When in the city, you are surrounded by the alps, it is absolutely stunning. Being an idiot like I usually am attempted to do a 9 hour round trip hike in about 5 hours before my train would leave. The hike started like most walking up a mountain and through the forests on a windy path that seemed to never end.

The hike continued up the mountain and the temperature continued to fall. The higher I hiked, the more snow covered the ground.

This picture is actually the highest point I could go as the trail was completely covered by snow and loose rock and it was not safe enough for me to continue. The views stretched for as long as the eyes could see, the alps just seemed to continue forever. I spent quite a bit of time up here at this view and to this day remains one of my favorite views I have ever seen.
