Recently, the Chinese city of Jinan has just completed a trial test of their new "unhackable" network, which could possibly become a commercial application. This would be the first one in existence and it would be backed by a quantum network.
Jinan, located in Shandong province, has plans set forth by the "men in charge" to implement this new technology by the end of August.
If anyone has been following along with Chinese technological advancements, there is also a Beijing-Shanghai network in the works which also uses quantum technology. Jinan, which lies somewhere in the middle-ish of these two cities can now possibly act as a hub between Beijing and Shanghai to route the messages.
The Beijing and Shanghai network will be the longest land network using quantum communications channels upon its completion. It will be over 2,000 km in distance and will be primarily used by banks in Beijing and Shanghai and of course, the government.
The reason the government wants to do this is because Quantum communications networks use Quantum Key Distribution or QKD. These are much more secure than traditional methods of data transfer and prevent hacking as we know it by changing the data if it is accessed mid-relay.

SCIENCE

I did not even know it was possible to change data mid-relay. I need to look into this and see what kind of data it changes to. You would think it would be meaningless data, but I won't know until I look into it. Thanks for this share..you have my mind curious now and it likes that!
I'm not too tech savvy so I don't know how it all works, but I can see it being possible for those types of hackers. After all info is just data packets going from one place to another and if you can catch it Midway I guess it can be edited. Idk,I should look more into it as well ;)
I was thinking that the link in the text probably went to a fake website designed to look legit. Then you would input your information, whether it be your json file or password and then the attackers would have your wallet information and simply transfer what you have in your wallet to theirs.
Ahh I mean if we are talking crypto or just banking info what you described is a perfect example of phishing. I'm sure hacking a data transfer would have the goal of stealing money or important info, but I think it's mainly to Target banks and govt
I apologize for the reply I left earlier. It was intended for a different post. The EOS slackbot account was hacked and your message earlier arrived within minutes of responding to that article and your response fit perfectly to what I typed lol. For that scenario, yes it was phishing, but in a spectacular way.
In response to your post...Yes, I do wonder if those packets could be edited midway too if a breach was discovered in a quantum communication system. The data moves insanely fast, but it's still mind boggling to think it could move so fast that it could be edited very quickly to prevent the data finding its way into a hacker's hands as the breach is discovered.
Great this is how technology works :)
Agree! It's good for society as a whole for technology to advance regardless of country.
Hey, welcome to steemit. :) You seem like an interesting individual! Good luck on here! Upvoted and I followed you as well.
Ah that's awesome. Thanks so much. Unfortunately I cannot see you in my followers list, or on the list of upvoters :/
Boss post. Love it!
China, possibly leading the way.
Very cool stuff. Maybe China will share their technology with the west someday.
I agree
This is probably going to lead to a lot of people trying to hack their system.
It seems pretty interesting and let's see how last it longs.
China doesn't stop surprising us.
Nothing is unbreakable.
Hence the quotation marks, and saying technology as we know it ;)
