A Delightful Gastropub in the Heart of North West London

Alice House on Salusbury road near where I live, is a pub and restaurant in one. The location near Queens Park in London is the perfect spot and very easy to find just opposite the tube station. There is another Alice House, the original one in fact, which is in West Hampstead.

The Queens park establishment opened its doors in 2010. I live about ten minutes walk to it which is very convenient. I was drawn in by the interior décor whilst passing by one day. This is the perfect sort of place that I'd imagine myself spending a lazy Sunday slumped over a piping hot roast dinner of! And I did, lol.

The interior is very cool and current in a kind of shabby-chic stylization. With it's bare brick walls, vintage filament lighting, leather chesterfields sofas and lots of quirky decorations, the atmosphere provides a very warm and cozy feel.

The food menu is more like a gastropub. I have been to the venue a few of times for Sunday brunch, evening meals and drinks. It has always proved a thoroughly enjoyable experince.

Below are some of my favourite selections from Alice House.

Chalk Farm smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast, cream cheese

Cumberland sausage and onion hash, fried egg, sage crumb

Alice cheeseburger and chips

Sussex lamb shoulder with Yorkshire pudding and vegetables

The food is great with reasonably sized portions and of course a great selection of drinks and cocktails. However, the price is slightly on the high side given where it's located and the type of clientele it attracts. For example, gin and tonic costs £9.50 each. But again, that’s to be expected this side of town. I have been back quite a few times and never disappointed.

Staff are very friendly and I can always count on them to make me feel at home. They are ultra helpful as well and were kind enough to explain at length some of the products they sell on a few occasions.

It was always quite busy whenever I paid a visit to Alice House. I always see the place buzzing with people enjoying the food and drink. Very lively and relaxing atmosphere.

With great food, an amazing wine list and some of the friendliest staff in North West London, Alice House is definitely worth checking out. I would highly recommend this place to anyone interested in some good old English food and drinks.
