Fact you may not Know about July 4th 1776!

  • The Declaration Of Independece wasn't signed on July 4th 1776.
    July 4th 1776 congress adopted the Declaration of Independence , it wasn't signed until August 2nd 1776.

  • When the Declaration of Independence was read in front of a New York city crowd it started a riot.

  • 8 of the 56 people that signed the Declaration of Independence were not Americans, they were actually born in Britian.

  • 1 signer recanted. Richard Stockton, a Princeton Lawyer recanted after being arrested by the British and was subjected to Harsh Treatments.

  • During World War II, The Declaration of Independence was stored in Fort Knox.

  • Independence day should by July 2nd 1776. July 2nd is the day that the Continental Congress actually voted for Independence.

  • John Hancock was the 1st person to sign the Declaration of Independence. Hancock was the President of the Congress.

  • Thomas Jefferson wrote the 1st draft of the document. A committee of 5 actually drafted the final document, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Robert Livingston, John Adams and Roger Sherman.

  • One from the committee of 5 never signed the Declaration of Independence. John Livingston never signed the document. He sent his Brother to Sign for Him.

  • Whats written on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Some say that a treasure map is on the back of the document. Actually the back of the document reads, Original Declaration of Independdence, 4th of July 1776.

Well done for kicking out the Brits. It was a long time coming. It's a shame that the American people can't/won't apply the second amendment to remove the current government but you can't have it all I suppose.

I love this kind of articles, but as I am not American, I have some questions: Why did it start a riot in a New York city? Was John or Robert Livingston at the committee, and who signed the Declaration?

There was a statue of GEORGE that was torn down in New York city, this is what started the riot. 56 people signed the Declaration of Independence and No John Livingston never signed it but his Brother did. Here are all 56
