A shot of the lonely ice cream man and his cart I took after the New Year fair. Actually I was leaving and already packed the camera and shit.... I didnt intend to capture him, but suddenly I stopped, unholstered the camera and did a few quick snapshots. I did it mostly for the lighting, I had a feeling it might come out well -- and it did.

This really looks like a brilliant on the black velvet, isnt it? Took no efforts from me, just point and click. And voyla! Well, maybe I am a bit exaggerating here. Have a look at my 1st click:

The photos are very good @qwerrie, and I like the first one most. It reminds me on a poster of a movie, especially the iceman looks so familiar to me, but I cannot remember, which movie I am thinking of. The lighting is also great in both shots.

good lighting is the key to a good capture. you totally aware of it, judging by your pictures. I am on that stage when I aware of it, can use the benefits of it (when I see a good ligh), can cancel shooting if the light is poor, but I still cant manage a good light myself (no flash, no externals etc). this is still beyond my level.
this time, I just used what I noticed, what I was given by random.

I love the lighting you used, although you had no other choice. It matches wonderful to the whole scene.
Photographing with flash? I hate it and 99 percent I let the flash in auto mode / TTL.

99% flash in auto mode? my flash usage is about zero percent :))))
but lamps is another deal. that is essential help.
I think I have used the flash about 2 or three times this year, and then 99% in auto mode ;)
I have a small LED light in my backpack, which I sometimes use when I make macro photos.

что то не видно твоих новогодних фоток украшенного неоном города. ты выбираешься вообще в центр? на Невском неописуемая красота. мне, правда, совсем не до неё...
С лицом в кадре вырисовывается сюжет, а без него просто скучная конструкция))
Я в центре не был уже 100 лет...вот думаю, будет посуше, надо выбраться по темноте, побродить.
А что у тебя за проблемы, я могу чем-то помочь?
навряд ли. разве что у тебя есть знакомые которым требуется честный и трудолюбивый сотрудник с ок знанием английского языка и в меру кривыми руками? который в принципе годен и к полиграфии, но хотел бы сменить ее на нечто более перспективное и менее потогонно-наколенное ... слишком много пожеланий, хех. в январе, чувствую, у меня будет дофига времени... =)
вот прям конкретных знакомых таких не скажу, но поискать и поспрашивать можно. Никогда не знаешь заранее, где и что выстрелит. Ты мне куда-нибудь скинь список своих умений и навыков. Для разговора с кем-то (если таковой состоится) нужны более конкретные данные.
Можно и поколдовать, хоть ты в это не веришь))
