Having fun with primitive skills and making a bamboo bowl
View this post on Hive: Having fun with primitive skills and making a bamboo bowl
After making my Bamboo Guampa (Yerba Mate cup), I had one piece of bamboo left and wanted to make something else out of it. I decided to make a rice bowl. Bamboo is such a versatile material that is easy to work with. It can be used for building small containers up to larger structure such as scaffolding or even houses.
I cut this piece of bamboo with a jigsaw to a deep I feel is good for a bowl and then sanded it. The burned effect was obtained by pressing the bamboo against the power sander to increase the friction and heat.
I then scrubbed the inside to remove the flaky layer and there we go, it's ready to be used.
For the first try, I used my bamboo bowl to eat some soup. The bamboo is not totally dry so it still have some nice little smell which adds to the experience. The sound of the spoon hitting the bamboo bowl is much nicer than the sound of it hitting a ceramic bowl. It's fun to eat in with this bowl and because of the better mood it provides, the taste is also improved 😅.
Now my wife wants one too hehehe.

Awesome, I like that! I actually bought before when I was in Hongkong, I bought soup bowls and plates made out of bamboo. That’s a great job you’re doing! Keep it up! Thanks for the share, quochuy!
I’m looking to improve my skills and make more bamboo stuffs. It’s a great material that is also very sustainable

This is so awesome! I'm super inspired now and want to make my own bamboo cups and bowls!
I saw your photos in the comments of your bent bamboo spoon, which is fascinating by the way, but I am wondering how it is that you bend bamboo?
Thank you.
You bend bamboo by applying a little bit of heat. Either with fire, heatgun or a hair dryer.

And after bending it, I’m using it for my Yerba Mate canister

I was thinking of that and I probably will. Just need to work on my bamboo bending skills.
