Great Minds,

Your ability to outshine others and make you or your product standout amidst crowd is key to the top. As a matter of fact, you need attention to do well on steemit and in steem generally. Imagine yourself writing a great content with useful information that is most needed yet such article or post is not seen by the right audience. One the essence of your work is defeated and secondly you become frustrated and may lose hope not to continue. I tell you there are a lot of people who joined steemit.com with the aim to selling their views and making money as heard perhaps but unfortunately after two or more posts that lacked attention and probably hidden and without earnings. This article therefore attempts to discuss the need for attention and take a step further to enumerate ways to get attention to yourselves and your brand including getting attention to your steemit posts.

WHAT IS ATTENTION?

Attention is seen differently by different field of study. The Psychologist view it differently from the layman. But in general, attention means notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting or important. It is the action of dealing with or taking special care of someone or something
According to psychologist and philosopher William James, attention "is the taking possession of the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what may seem several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thoughts…It implies withdrawal from some things in order to deal effectively with others.
But attention is not just about centering your focus on one particular thing; it also involves ignoring a great deal of competing information and stimuli. Attention allows you to "tune out" information, sensations, and perceptions that are not relevant at the moment and instead focus your energy on the information that is important.

THE NEED FOR ATTENTION

Every one of us needs attention of others. Ant time other people look at us, when they listen and value us, we feel sweet. Sometimes it is even better we get punitive attention instead of no attention at all, that is how much we need it.
Furthermore, when other people pay attention to us, they connect us together, expanding our sense of identity. Their attention may also show esteem and give us some sense of status as they recognize us as worthy of their attention. In the opposite sense, it is depressing and quite possibly insulting when others ignore us, particularly when we are in conversation with them. To deny attention is to deny the person's existence, effectively diminishing their sense of identity.

HOW TO GET ATTENTION

  1. Have a shining personality. You shouldn't just bend to every trend. It's important to play up your individuality and the person that you are. Make choices in how you present yourself that reflect your personality, but make compromise with what people expect to see. Being too out there can be off putting but being just a little unique is usually very charming.
  2. Be positive. People know that life is difficult and sad sometimes. O they don’t need you to remind them rather they need hope and a way out. Everyone that goes through a hard time inherently seeks out someone that convinces them that life gets better.
  3. Be genuine and easy to relate with. If you want people to pay attention to you, whether you're trying to sell them a product or you want to find someone to date, you have to be relatable. They have to identify with and feel connected to you. They have to believe that you are what you're selling yourself as. That's just human nature, they want the real you. This means showing your flaws and not trying to make yourself seem perfect.
  4. You must exude confidence. Everyone likes someone who's confident. The truth about confidence is that very few people actually have it. It mostly comes down to being good at faking it. Don't talk down about yourself. You also should speak up for yourself and be willing to approach people and strike up a conversation.
  5. Know what you're talking about. Whether you're trying to make friends, take leadership in the classroom, or sell your product to investors, it's crucial to actually know what you're talking about. People can usually tell when you don't. This doesn't mean that you should act like a know-it-all or show off your expertise all the time. It just means that you shouldn't claim expertise in an area you don't know, just in order to appeal to people.
  6. Be exciting and interesting. You have to offer something to people that’s more than the boring stuff that they’re used to seeing. Mostly, this means just getting out there and doing something! Just sitting around and sticking to what you’ve always done isn’t very engaging. Be just a little unexpected and be willing to take some risks. This will attract everyone from customers to potential friends.
  7. Be friendly and familiar. You need to be friendly when you talk with new people. You don't want people to see you as cold or difficult to approach. This creates awkwardness and tension when you're trying to develop a relationship with them. Of course, you don't want to act overly familiar. Just be willing to open up to them about yourself and use inviting body postures and language.
  8. Pay attention. In order to be really good at getting positive attention, you need learn how to read people. It's crucial for knowing when to press more and when to back off. Pay attention to how people use body language and what people say. Similarly, you need pay attention to what feelings people are expressing and what they say about the events in their lives, so that you can make an enlightened guess about what would interest them in that moment.
  9. Develop a connection. When you want someone's attention, you need them to feel connected to you. They need to feel like the two of you get and care for each other. They need to feel like you're invested in their happiness and well-being. Do this by creating and showing sympathy towards them. They should also feel that you support and encourage them. Judgement and criticism only throw up barriers.
  10. Make others feel important. People want to feel important. Make them feel important by giving them small ways in which they can help you or by helping them to see the profoundly positive role they play in your life.
  11. Give people reason to invest in you. You have to show people that you have something of value to offer them. In the case of relationships, friendships, and partnerships, this means giving as much as you take. It means being your own fully developed person with worthwhile traits. If you are an author, it means showing your readers and curators that you can offer them more than your competitor.
  12. Excite their sense of adventure. People naturally want to see themselves as the hero in their own story, not as the side character in someone else's. If you can play to this desire, you can be great at getting lots of attention. Appeal to people's curiosity, by giving them a puzzle to solve that ends in a reward. Appeal to their love of stories, by telling them a story with a happy ending that mirrors their own experience. Tell your own story in a way that paints them as the hero. No matter what you want from them, this will really help grab their attention.
  13. Take on challenges. Someone that's not afraid to take on the challenges that others shrug off is someone that gets attention. Do something that someone is going to look at your actions and say: "Man, I didn't think anyone would actually be brave enough to do that!" This not only earns their attention, it earns their respect, and that is the kind of attention that you really want.
  14. Find or value a talent. Talent is sexy. It's beckons to people, regardless of whether they are potential relationship material or if they are customers. Everyone wants to be associated with someone special who put up something spectacular. Find your talent, or develop a new one if you don't have one you like, and then embrace it and show it to the world.
  15. Appeal to what people like. When you only do things that appeal to yourself, it shows a lack of interest in other people. It makes you seem self-involved. It makes you seem like you're not interested in being a team player. Temper your own approach to your interest area with something that appeals to a wider audience. This will make people more likely to look at what you're doing and see something that they can get back.
  16. Stick to one thing at a time. Don't jump from one trend to the next or from one interest area to another. This makes it clear that you're only doing things to get attention and it makes it seem that you don't really care about anything you do or the people that it appeals to. Instead, let progressions happen naturally and move slowly from one area to the next. And you will get not just attention but the right one.
