Meditation in the midst of chaos

My little side kick. I’m doing the best I can to teach him the values, ethics, and self soothing techniques I’ve learned over my thirty years on this planet. It’s working!
My son had a very scary moment earlier in this week when caution (potentially too much caution) was excercised as there was a shooting several miles from his school. The school went on heavy lock down. He was terrified. Luckily, he has been practicing meditation with me nearly daily. Instead of crying or fear, he recognized his emotion of fear for what it was and chose to respond with meditation. I’m thankful that I have given him the tools to access a safe space. I couldn’t be with him. He was with his class huddled in a corner. He meditates through the experience. Later, after many hugs and reassurance from Mom, I commended him on his use of meditation. I couldn’t be more proud. It gives me greate peace that has learned this skill so early. It took me many more years to accept the tool of meditation though I was introduced to it as early as he was. Thank you universe for this. Thank you a million times over 🙏🏻

Wow. Really powerful, recognizing the strength in meditation. Kudos to you for teaching him that early

He has to make the choice. I’ll teach and set the example, but it is his choice. He’s wise beyond his years sometime.

I saw a picture you posted earlier, doing yoga with the kid. Learning meditation at such a low age is great. With your company he will also become a Yogi.

I myself at early age use to sing and pray every evening. It was more of a prayer ritual, but comparable to meditation. This is the most beautiful memory of my very early childhood that I still remember. And I love it. It definitely helps.

He may not ever do the physical practice. He rarely will practice because, but I’d rather him do the mental practice of yoga anyway❤️. He does like acro!

Huddled in a corner when the shooting was miles away from the school. Sounds like the school didn't do much to calm the children. Good job for teaching your son how to deal with stress on his own. I wonder how old your son is and if you do yoga together. Is he super flexible too?

The power of mother influence the behavior more than anything in this universe. If a mother is teacher, that she always is but if she sometimes make her children to imprint the her experiences and professional skill, will make them immortal to vulnerability of universe.

You did what you could have. You succeeded in your goal but the experience transmission from mother to her children will never end. Hope you will make them too good to make your and their every movement happy in life.

What counts, it is very unfortunate that it happens, in a school.
That well for your precautions (potentially too much caution) that was what helped your son to put into practice what you teach him. Mother's love is not too much, it's always fair

The amount of love I have for my child is indescribable. The moment I held him was an ah-ha moment: this is what love should feel like. I found it again a couples years later when I met my husband

I'm happily married. And I really love my wife. But when my first daughter, Victoria Valentina, was born, I knew what it is to truly love what one is capable of doing for a child. I can not even imagine what a mother can do ..

Thank you for sharing your personal experiences and for efforts of bring up an emotionally literate being. We have so few words to describe how we feel to others that so often we don't know ourselves how do we really feel, we don't notice when emotion comes and we let it take us over, we react. Kids are tough anything but how to acknowledge emotion and use them to know yourself, to grow into an emotionally mature human being and to be our own best company.

I was blown away by his use of meditation. He said it calmed the other children too. By the end of the lock down just by diving in and meditating, he inspired an entire class to meditate.

Often kids know better then adults what to do with themselves, they just need tools. He inspired an entire class to meditate! 👏👏👏
