I've been going through a bout of depression. It's not the worst it has ever been, but it still isn't great. I need to break the cycle. So how do I do this? I do this through yoga, mediation, and writing in my gratitude journal. It's really hard to make myself practice when I'm feeling down. EVERYTHING is so much harder. I'm naturally a very happy, outgoing person; but depression makes me feel less like myself. It's very frustrating. All I can do is try. Make myself do the things I know make me a more mentally stable person as detailed above... and wait for it to work. Here is a snapshot of today's practice:

Depression sucks. You know as well as I do how profoundly it can affect our motivation. Glad you got to practice today. Now if I can just get home from work before 7:30 maybe I can practice as well.

wow! your flexibility is very good. I can't imagine doing that.
In times of depression, one thinks too much and does nothing, so better to take oneself out in nature, and let your thoughts dissipate and settle down. All the best.

your words are encouraging truly when we are down, we feel sort of irritated by everything around us, but when we engage our self in things that gives us joy, happiness we tend to temporarily forget about the depression and do cheer-up things will get better

I am sorry to hear that you've been feeling under the weather @pretzelgirlsandy.

While its meant to help persons who are more 'on the edge', I do feel that you could benefit looking through a little something that I posted a few weeks ago. It won't necessarily make you a happy person (I am 'far' from immune to sadness) but it may help.

Incidentally I'll 'never' be anywhere near as flexible as you are - and that is OK. It gives persons like you at 'least' one niche within which to feel accomplished - and persons like me get to find some other way to carve a niche for ourselves in the World. ^_^

Oh... and I'm 'not' saying that you are limited to excelling physically. There are bound to be non-physical activities that you love also (they tend to be the best places to naturally excel - without trying). :c)

I like your post :)! Luckily, depression and suicidal thoughts don't go hand-in-hand for me. Usually, I'm just not quite myself (a lot of negative self-talk and lack of motivation).

I am glad to hear that you are not suicidal. :c) I know that not every person who is sad or depressed is of suicidal inclination - but I personally have been shocked by a number of persons (both famous and not) who took their own lives (such as Robin Williams) - and so when somebody says that they are feeling depressed - thats their signal that they'd at least like a little understanding. :c)

Plus I get to spread this post around a little. Feel free to pass it on to anybody you feel 'might' be at risk. ^_^

By the way I am open to delving deeper into the negative self-talk and lack of motivation that you speak of.

I did take a quick look through a few of your posts before answering. :c)

I'm going to have quite a bit of time off work this month (soon), and I will have a chance to reset. I'll be great soon :)

Sorry to hear. Are there positive things going on in your life that you can be grateful for/focus on? That might help.

I'm glad you're keeping up with your yoga practice during this time. Hopefully that gives you some escape.

Thats not good hope your pulling out of it now. It appears a lot of people are going through this currently (me included). Society is been driven this way. But its great you have coping mechanisms in place. Big hugs and reiki :)
