WE CAN HAVE REVIVAL. WHEN? NOW!

Dare I say that praying for revival and the way we expect it to come down from heaven is among the most misunderstood aspect of our Christian faith.

We often pray for revival as if God is hard to get. To start with, to even have a desire and a burden to pray for a move of God must surely be the work of the Holy Spirit. So if God is so keen to send revival that He convicts us of the need for revival and moves us to prayer, why would He keep us waiting, in some cases, for years?

I honestly believe we can have revival now. All the accounts of the move of the Holy Spirit we read in the Bible, particularly in the Acts of Apostles, can happen today. Dare I say on demand?

THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES:

The Book of Acts is full of the mighty deeds of the Holy Spirit.
He came on the 120 in the Upper Room, and revival broke out in Jerusalem. That day, 3000 people were saved. Less than three months before the same crowd had shouted, “Crucify him”.

A few days later, as Peter and John were about to enter the temple to pray, a man born lame was made to walk. The man had double trouble. He couldn’t walk and he had never learnt how to walk. A baby may have the ability to walk but he still has to learn to walk. This man had never learnt to walk.

Walking is like riding a bike. You learn to ride, and then you can ride, that is, to keep your balance on two wheels. No matter how many years you stay off a bike, the moment you jump on one off you go. You can’t forget how to ride a bike.

However, if you have never learnt, no matter how old you are, you won’t stay on those two wheels for long.

The beggar at the Gate Beautiful had never learnt how to walk. But in an instant, the power of the Holy Spirit came upon him:

“Taking him by the right hand; He helped him up and instantly, the man’s feet and ankles became strong.

8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.” (Acts 3:7-8).

Miracle of miracles, the man received strength in his legs. Three miracles in one go. His lameness was healed, the weak and emaciated muscles in the legs were strengthened and instantaneously he also learnt to walk for the first time in his life.

Was this a sovereign act of God?

No, I don’t think so. It was the “acts of the apostles”.

Peter did something that released the power of the Holy Spirit for such a great miracle. If he hadn’t acted, the Holy Spirit would have done nothing at this time.

This is partnership. God was depending on Peter to do the right thing as much as Peter was relying on the Holy Spirit to flow through him to heal the man.

“You killed the author of life, but God raised Him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.

16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see”. (Acts 3:15, 16)

Everything Jesus was has now been deposited in His Name. Peter knew that. He knew that if he used the name of Jesus in prayer it would be just as powerful and effective as if Jesus Himself was physically present to do the miracle. But there is more.

Only certain people can use the name of Jesus with such immediate effectiveness.

The seven sons of Sceva tried to use the name of Jesus without this ingredient and it backfired.

Using the name of Jesus without this ingredient is like trying to use the internet when you are not online. You have the computer, you have the right website but you are offline.

There is more to the name of Jesus than the name itself. Jesus must be alive in the person using the name. There must be total commitment to the cause of Christ in the person. There must be no leftover of sin or self in the person. Once a person can meet the conditions, the Holy Spirit will flow freely through him.

It is not up to the Holy Spirit, if he wants to move or not.

It is up to the person if he meets the condition or not.
