DEFEATING DISCOURAGEMENT

You and I know that Satan, our enemy, is attacking God’s people daily because God has called us to live lives which will radiate Jesus. Satan knows that if he can overcome you and me in our victorious walk, he will keep us from being an effective witness for Jesus. Christians know about discouragement because we have faced it; however, every Christian must learn to conquer this evil trap of Satan.

It is God’s will for you to overcome discouragement. It is God’s will for your life to hit a plateau of smoothness, instead of being up one day, down the next. The only way to overcome is by learning God’s Word. The Word of God will bring your valleys up and your mountains down so you will live a victorious life.

Psalms 42:11 says:

“Why art thou cast down, oh my soul? Why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance and my God.”

Therefore, whenever you are discouraged, ask yourself, “Why am I discouraged?”. The answer is simply this: we are discouraged because we have permitted the devil to override our knowledge of God’s Word. We have also permitted him to come against our senses and our feelings, thus producing discouragement.

Discouragement is being drained of courage. It is the wanting to give up because you have had all you can take. You have fought and fought and fought, then finally saying, “Well, I’ve done everything I know to do.” You become fainthearted. The drive or push is gone. The pressure has been upon you so hard and for so long, or the hurt has been so deep that you get confused and frustrated.

Discouragement is being produced by the devil who has blocked the pathway. He is blocking you from walking in victory and from being an effective witness for Jesus. He has blocked you from receiving healing or seeing your wife or your husband from coming to Jesus. Not seeing the answer in sight, you begin to get fainthearted, drained of courage and disillusioned.

On the inside, you are saying, “I know God’s Word says I am more than a conqueror, but look where I am. I know God says I can overcome. The Bible says that He that is me is greater than he that is in the world. I also know the Bible says God has given me power and authority over the enemy, but I am disillusioned. I can’t get victory over this discouragement. I have tried and tried and tried and tried.” However, you are still discouraged, disillusioned and distressed. The pressure is so rough, or the load is so heavy, you become disinterested in life.

Your desire is to go on with God; wanting to keep your joy and peace. You also want to do the things God wants you to do, but it just seems as if your interest in God’s way is gone. The fire has been put out. The water has been poured and poured upon the fire until the fire has been dwindled away. Friends, there is a spirit of discouragement; and also a spirit of hopeless,

Where your life becomes hopeless. You do not think there is any way out. However, it is God’s will for you and me to have victory over discouragement. It does not matter in which area of your life you are discouraged in – your physical life, spiritual life, mental life, family life or your job – because God does not want you to live discouraged. The land of discouragement, hopelessness, disillusionment and disinterest is a miserable land to live in.

Most of the world today thinks that discouragement is something you have to live with. Living with it is possible if you want it but I am living without it. This does not mean that situation which cause discouragements never come or that things are not said to me to cause discouragement. I have learnt that in the Bible, there is victory and you and I can overcome discouragement.

It does not make any difference what your age is, you will have to fight it. You may be in the first grade, second grade, tenth grade, college or maybe you are 75 years of age, the spirit of discouragement, hopelessness, and disillusionment is always coming against mankind. This is the work of the devil. it is not God’s will to give you joy and peace and then discourage you.
