Whiffenpoof: Fearsome Critter
Not to be confused with the Yale a cappella singing group, Whiffenpoofs of legend are a water bound fearsome critter, not collegiate singers.
An extremely large fish, the Whiffenpoof is found only in perfectly round bodies of water. And only in the exact center of the lake or pond. Some Whiffenpoof stories allude to a large horn on the creature’s head.
It is said to be the tastiest fish, if you can catch it. To catch a Whiffenpoof, you must make your way to the exact center of a frozen lake and bait the gigantic fish with fine cheese. The cheeses most appealing to the beast are Limburger, Brie, and Stilton, but any cheese will be sure to attract the Whiffenpoof’s attention. The Whiffenpoof will only emerge from a square hole, and when it does emerge to eat its cheese, you must spit tobacco juice in the eye of this aquatic monster. The Whiffenpoof will swell in his fury, making it impossible for him to escape from the hole, making this the prime moment of capture.

I dispute that Limburger is a fine cheese, except perhaps for stink kittens to consume.

Who wouldn't swell in fury if someone spit tobacco juice in your eye? Cheese makes sense as bait. I bet that I could catch humans if I used cheese as bait. Lol
