Space Force

I guess I was busy with other big things going on in my life when Trump started talking about a Space Force, so I really never bothered to think about it too much. I do remember seeing posts and memes from the left about Trump's "Space Force" that were mocking it as ludicrous and absurd. Well, I think it is ludicrous and absurd as well but for an entirely different reason. From a statist perspective, (and all of these leftists are hardcore statists) there are perfectly legitimate reasons for such a thing, and if Hillary or Obama announced the same plan, they would be all for it.

According to a report from the Director of National Intelligence that was compiled from information gathered by the FBI, CIA and NSA, China and Russia are currently developing anti-satellite weapons focused on US space infrastructure. In addition Russia already has their version of a Space Force - the Russian Aerospace Defense Force, which if the rumors are to be believed are participating in Russian plans to build a moon colony for mining purposes. With that in mind, having a conversation about the idea of a "Space Force" and weighing the needs of protecting our strategic assets in space versus the risks of a new arms race and the problems in instituting a brand new military bureaucracy does not seem particularly ludicrous or absurd. And in fact, we already have the Air Force Space Command and the Space Mission Force created in 2016 specifically to address such concerns.

The real reason this is absurd is that it is all a hoax. Trump and Putin and Obama and Hillary and the Chinese Communist Party Leaders are all actors. They work for the same owners, who also own all the space infrastructure anyway, and wouldn't dream of destroying their own property unless it was profitable. A Space Force, along with any and all military expenditures are just a scam to take money from the working class, no matter what country.
