Dwayyo: North American Folklore

in #folklore7 years ago

Mortal enemy of the dreadful Snallygaster, the Dwayyo is also a cryptid local to Maryland. Like a wolf, the Dwayyo is covered in bristly fur from head to toe and has a mouth full of sharp teeth from which it emits a fearsome growl.

Unlike a wolf, the Dwayyo is bipedal, walking upright on his hind legs and utilizing its forelegs as arms. As well as bearing the stance of a human, the wolf creature is much larger than a typical wolf. Most reports state the beast standing between six and seven feet tall. The Dwayyo is said to lurk in the forests. While it’s main foe is the flying Snallygaster, it will attack any human that gets too near to it.

Reports of the Dwayyo go back to the 1730s when the area famed for both Snallygaster and Dwayyo sighting was first populated by Europeans. But most people believe recent reports of the wolfman are a hoax, dreamed up by the media.

Sounds a lot like a werewolf. It seems that many fearsome creatures have commonalities among different cultures. I havent heard of a snallygaster, I must have missed that post. I'm intrigued. I'll have to check it out
