Dungavenhooter: Fearsome Critter

in #folklore8 years ago

One of the lesser known fearsome critters from American folklore, the Dungavenhooter was alleged to resemble a large crocodile. Unlike the crocodile, and most animals, the Dungavenhooter did not have a mouth. It was said that instead of a mouth, the Dungavenhooter had two excessively large nostrils and thick, powerful tail.

Because he had no mouth and only nostrils, the only noise the Dungavenhooter could make was a loud snort. Legend has it that this fearsome critter dwelled in marshes, where it would await unsuspecting prey. Using it’s strong tail, it would repeatedly thump its captive prey, eventually squishing it into a vapor, which the Dungavenhooter would inhale with the abnormally large nostrils as sustenance.

As a cautionary tale for woodsmen considering wandering off during drinking binges, it was said that the Dungavenhooter was particularly fond of the aroma of drunk men, and the creature would use its extreme cunning and stealth to capture the sops at all costs.
