Travel Norway #26: Rondane National Park

in #photography5 years ago

Hi Friends!

Let me introduce You to another great location in middle Norway - Rondane National Park.

In this post I will present few panoramic works and few other shots taken during last trip to that place... I will have to re-visit Rondane soon because this trip took place 4 years ago.

In my personal opinion - it is beautiful :). Why? Because I love such open, vast spaces, where You have a long horizon, huuge open sky above Your head and fantastic looking mountains around.

LOCATION:
Rondane National Park is situated more south than previously presented Trollheimen and Dovrefjell National Park, the simplest way to reach the location is to follow south main road E6 to Otta, from there we will have to drive up to reach place called Spranget. There we can, and we have to, park our cars, road further is closed for private cars and it leads directly to Tourist Complex called Rondvassbu situated be the shores of Rondvatnet lake.

Of course this is not the only reachable location in the Rondane National Park, we can also drive to some other spots in Eastern parts of the mountains, but this one here is most popular. Maybe because of the big Tourist complex with rooms to hire, camping area for tents, few smaller shelters and direct access to the path leading to the highest mountain of the park - Storronden (which by the way I will have to visit!).

Rondane mountains are located in the high plateau, this makes the whole landscape looks very harsh, empty, vast - only small birch trees and tiny bushes from higher plants here and there.
What is amazing there is colorful ground cover - all kinds of lichenes, mosses and other small plants create a mosaic of colors and patterns.

This is also the land of wild Reindeers, I haven't meet them there but I know they can travel across the area in a really big herds. Some Musk-Oxes are also present in the park.

During my first trip I was lucky to meet a lot of running lemmings - these small, funny and colorful mice-like creatures were everywhere that year, I don't really know why, but it is something in biology of these creatures that sometimes they are breeding like crazy. You probably know the video game, very old one, called Lemmings.

Some of these small creatures were really aggresive towards people, just imagine that they could stand on their back legs, watching directly at You and making strange sounds! :D
Unfortunatelly I don't have any good shots from that time.

ABOUT SHOTS:
I was traveling with my wife. That day was cloudy and dark, havy clouds were gather above our heads, we hiked from the parking place to the Tourist shalter and took a trail on the other side of the lake. After reaching the small top, we decided to head back, the night was closing by and we had still many km to walk back to reach our car.
We spend the night in the car to welcome next day in location.
Was chilly, something around 0 degree Celsius.
But this is how the mountains looked next morning:
