Cityscape Photography: skyline of Mosteiros on Sao Miguel Island

Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!

I am already working on the next episode of my Beauties of Azores series (I will probably roll it out tomorrow) but today, I would like to show you two cityscape shots that I took here on the Azore island of Sao Miguel just a few days ago.

Well, the term "cityscape" is definitely a bit exaggerated in this context as there are no real cities on the Azores (Ponta Delgada, the capital and by far the largest "city" of the islands has a population of just 69,000) and the town where I took these photos is home to only some 1,100 people but let´s stick to it for once as terms like "townscape" or "villagescape" sound really awkward :D

Located in the northwestern part of Sao Miguel, the largest island of the archipelago, Mosteiros is a picturesque little town with traditional white houses with red roofs and a nice promenade along the rocky coast.

Continuously washed by the waves of the North Atlantic Ocean, the town is easily recognizable by a group of massive volcanic cliffs sticking out of the ocean that are known as Ilheus dos Mosteiros.

As a matter of fact, it was one of these cliffs that the town got its name from. If you take a closer look at the cliffs, you will notice that the largest one is shaped as a church or monastery and in the Portuguese language, monastery is called mosteiros.

Apart from the "cliff church" protruding from the ocean, there is an actual and very beautiful church in the town too. It´s called Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceicao (meaning the Church of Our Lady of the Conception in English) and I wrote about it in this post dedicated to churches of Sao Miguel.
