I took many flights that day. I took off and landed multiple times. I love flying so I totally enjoyed it.

I got a front-row window seat which is certainly the best for this experience!

This floatplane excursion starting in Vancouver, Canada, left of the popular cruise ship port, is known as the Mail Run.

So my family and I were the mail runners that day and had the pleasure of visiting a few quite remote islands.

No, we didn’t visit Victoria but yes, there is a separate flight that takes you straight there right from the heart of Vancouver.

So our floatplane trip began with a flight over to Gulf Islands together with a bunch of local commuters.

The maximum luggage allowance here is just 11 kg (25 pounds). Make sure you have an ID on you as like on any other flight you need to check-in, get a boarding pass and then you will be allowed on the aircraft itself.

There are plenty of complimentary refreshments available before boarding including fresh juicy fruit, cookies, biscuits, water, tea and coffee.

You have time to explore the Gulf Islands and get to know how the people live on this part of Canada’s west coast. There certainly isn’t much going on here but it seems ideal for when you decide to finish that book which you have been writing for quite a few years now or just work your day-to-day job remotely which is actually easier.

Then we also landed on the much livelier Salt Spring Island before returning to Vancouver in the evening. Here you can grab a bite to eat, a drink and also shop for a handmade bag to match your new outfit and souvenirs to take home of course. Then I recommend you enjoy some time on the black sandy beach which is full of oysters and is just about half an hour away, opposite the Harbour House Hotel.

There are quite a few birds around and even deer. The weather is pretty changeable here so if you arrive and you are welcomed with a greyish cloudy sky don’t rush to take the first floatplane back.
