You're in the army now
I read a piece by @cryptoandcoffee today about his experiences in the military and remembered that it sure wasn't for everyone,
The experience had a less than favourable effect on some, but for very many it was and is very necessary. I see many youngsters these days drift through their late teens and early adult years aimlessly and without discipline and direction.
I remember my time in the military mostly fondly, for instance the comradery between the guys who shaped friendships that will last forever, memories of washing and mending clothes together, listening to music and drinking a beer together, singing songs together, enduring extreme training through extreme weather together.
These are the times I remember fondly. I remember the long cold nights encouraging each other while out on night patrol in below zero temperatures or out on bush phase training in temperatures above 38'. We sang through obstacle training, 2.4 km runs, sometimes up to 6 times a day with pushups, situps and chinups in between.
We were prepped for life, taught to be self sufficient, honourable, selfless, respectful and to stand up against enemies of civilized freedom.
My memories are fond
