THE DIARY GAMES: Another Busy Day at the Site!! 😃, 31-10-2025
So today, I woke up at about 7am (WAT). Ideally, waking up by that time wouldn't have been much of an issue, but due to the targets I had set for today, it became some sort of problem though. For those who follow me and read my stories on this platform, last night I talked about how I had bought a few chicken parts from the market and about three cups of rice with the intention of using the bought items to prepare rice and pepper soup for dinner since it rained yesterday night, thus leaving the atmosphere so cold! But since I ended up eating the last bit of melon soup I had left, I decided to just only season and cook the chicken meat for a few minutes with the intention to cook properly today and then cook the rice to go along with the chicken as pepper soup.
So due to all of these chores I needed to accomplish before leaving for work, It felt like waking up at 7am was such a mini disaster. But all in all though, I had to put the disappointment of waking up "late" to one end and forge ahead with my day. So immediately I left the bed, I rushed immediately to where my has cylinder is, put it on, and then placed a clean pot filled with about three cups of water and then I let it boil. While waiting for the water to boil, I hurriedly brushed my teeth, and also went to the tap in the next compound to get a bucket of water for the cooking.
Immediately I got home after getting the bucket of water, I noticed my pot of water was boiling and so I poured the rice into the pot of boiling water. Reason why I usually let my water boil before pouring the rice inside is so that the rice cooks faster and doesn't get soggy. This method has served me so well for years now. So after about a 15 minutes, rice was ready to be washed. So I put the pot of rice down, out about three cups of water in a kettle and put it on the gas to boil while I washed the rice.
It was a stone-free rice so it didn't take much time to wash. All I did was rinse about three times until the water ran clear and that was just it. While washing, the water in the kettle has began to boil. I put the kettle down, put the pot of rice back up on the gas and then poured the hot water I had boiled in the kettle into the pot of rice. In no time, rice was boiling and bringing out foams. I took the pot's lid off so as to reduce the foaming and then added a bit of salt to taste.
After some minutes, water had dried drastically so I put the pot lid back ontop of the pot. Ten minutes later, water in the rice was all dried up and so I put the pot of rice down. Afterwards, I put the pot of half cooked chicken on the gas, added some water to let it cook properly and then I moved ahead to slice the one hundred naira (N100) scent leaves I had bought for the pepper soup. After slicing the scent leaves, I poured it into the pot of Chicken pepper soup and then stirred to mix properly.
I then let it boil for about two-three months before putting the pot down. Once everything (being the rice and pepper soup) was done, I dished out a bowl of rice, dished out some pepper soup water and about two pieces of chicken in a small round bowl and then hurriedly started to devour the meal! Am a fast eater so it didn't even take time for me to finish eating. Immediately after eating, I picked my bag up and off I went to work.
On getting to site, I met all of my colleagues including my team members and then we did the usual, which is getting cement from the store as well as other work tools so that work can commence. We actually were saddled with the job of casting the Subbase for the drainage work we started yesterday. But before we start casting, first we went to the store, got about for baskets of iron reinforcement steels and then had them properly laid. So next, we rolled out concrete mixer, place the funnel in front and then commenced work.
We didn't start casting early enough though coupled with the fact that materials such as sand and granite were at a distant, I took us some time to cover just 12 meters of the Subbase. But eventually we succeeded and left pouring about three baskets. I worked directly with the foreman in setting the baskets and I was so happy. Atleast I learnt something new today! At the end of the day, we were able to finish 17 bags of cement and then returned the remaining three. After transferring everything back to the store, we all took a shower, got dressed and left. I got home at about 7:20pm. I warned the pepper soup and the rice, then dished out as I can consume. After eating, I cleared where I sat to eat since I have no reading table and then a few minutes later, I decided to write about my day before I doze. So guys, that's it for today on THE DIARY GAMES in my blog. See you all tomorrow for another very interesting edition. Goodnight and bye...
