THE RED-EARED TURTLE - COMMON, BUT ALWAYS A PLEASURE
Since they are big in the pet trade, they are now in the wild worldwide.
This is actually a species that I never really had as a pet. They are possibly the most popular turtle species in the pet trade, and nonnative populations of them are now established all over the world. That's the unfortunate consequence of people releasing pets into the wild.
Thankfully, they are a native species here, and readily available for observation and photographs in the wild. We found a number of them down by the lake recently (and back into the lake they went), but this one was the most impressive. From the face coloration and patterns to those stunning eyes, this was a great specimen to photograph. Enjoy the photos!
