THE FORT PORTAL JADE BEAN - TRYING A NEW KIND OF DRIED BEAN

in Foodies Unite4 years ago

These sure look good!

In the realm of gardening, far more varieties exist than most gardeners will ever even know about. Thankfully, companies like the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company exist, which not only offer real non-GMO seeds, but also many fantastic and amazing varieties from all around the world. Around here, most dried beans people like and use seem to be Kidney Beans, Black Beans, Navy Beans, and Pinto Beans. For us, we'll definitely try others, and even try growing them.

This particular variety featured in the photos below is the Fort Portal Jade Bean originally from Uganda. As the beans dry, they become an even more impressive color of green. This is the recent harvest of dried beans, and many more are being made in the garden right now. Enjoy the pics, and we'll let you know how they taste!
