I AM FINALLY GETTING MY SEEDLINGS STARTED!

in #gardening6 years ago

This has got to be one of my favorite things to do!

Seriously, to take tiny little seeds and somehow feed an entire family for months off of what they produce is incredible! I absolutely love it! However, life can get busy, and tasks like this can be hard to fit in some times. I'm getting it done though!

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

From peppers and tomatoes to kiwanos and noodle beans, @papa-pepper loves to grow! Originally, I got into gardening because I heard that you could get free food, and that hasn't changed! Being connected to your food supply is also a huge bonus, and it is not something that we take lightly.

Personally, I do not like to plant multiple seeds into the same cell of a planting tray and then have to kill the extra ones that sprout. Somehow, it just seems wrong to me. That's why I use a method where I place the seeds in moist paper towel to germinate them. Then, whichever seeds actually sprout get their own spot in the soil, and no one has to die in the process.

Back in Wisconsin I would start my pepper seeds first, often sometime between the end of January and mid-February. Then, I would slowly work my way through the rest of the plants. While I certainly do have a longer growing season down here in Arkansas, I still like to get some started indoors ahead of time. However, I'm running behind this year with all that is going on. I do have some sprouted though, and more on the way, so at least I am making progress.

Besides the regular and also strange foods that we like to grow, we also enjoy a variety of herbs. While the medicinal ones sure do have their place, we also like to grow a some for teas or seasonings. In the photo above is some tiny little German Chamomile plants sprouting.

I've got a lot left to plant this year, but I'm happy to be started, even if it is a little later than I'd like. As far as some new ones for this year that I've already got sprouted, Koren Goji Berries are a special one for us. Since they supposedly do better in our area than Chinese Goji Berries, and since they are perennials (which means that they will be back for years to come once they get started) we are happy to be starting many new ones from seed. I have a few plants that I got last year too, but it is always exciting to start new ones from seed. Are there any new plants that you are growing this year? Do you have any of your seeds planted already?

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Great job! It is about being connected with your food. The only growing I’ve done is sprouting. Love seeing sunflower seeds grow and getting to eat them in a week!

Pretty good

this is great @papa-pepper,
I am very impressed with your words and I will remember forever.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

That's a very profound word for me @papa-pepper.

Better late than never indeed. But I get it. I always want to do so many things but my days are too short! Really want to start growing more foods too but it is so hard to find planting-potting material here and the soil is so poor and rocky. Happy growing!

Yeah, we've got a lot of work to do in building up our "soil" here too, but we will be working on it!

keep the spirit of the experiment papa,,, I am sure you will succeed ,,, as before ,,, you are amazing ,,,, lets show the spirit papa ,,, for the best result,,,,

Thanks @rezack! I'll keep at it!

Glad to hear I am not the only one getting a late start. I am in zone 7 and just planted potatoe starts outside yesterday, fingers crossed. I am starting jalapeño, habanero, and Thai chile peppers from seed today. I think I will have to start tomatoes from purchased starters, I think it's too late for tomatoes.

You will be blessed to see them growing everyday.

Very interesting planting techniques such crops, such as hydroponic techniques. Limited land is not a problem, intention to plant this extraordinary.

wow..i.love also gardening..thanks for sharing..this post..
