A BRAND NEW PEPPER FOR PAPA!
You never know what you are going to find!
I went to a plant sale for the local FFA the other day to grab some extra plants for my garden. You never know what you are going to find when you step into someone else's greenhouse, and this time it proved to be a real treasure. First off, the plants were buy one get one free because they were trying to sell the rest of their inventory. That alone was awesome enough. However, I saw something amazing that caught my eye.
I knew instantly from the flowers that I was looking at some sort of pepper plant. Sure enough, the little guy was marked "Ornamental Pepper." As far I know, this should be producing a spicy little pepper that will most likely become a dark purple before ripening to a bright red. That is just my guess, but I have grown some peppers with dark purple leaves that have flowers that look the same. Those ones, often called "Black Prince" or "Black Pearl" depending on the shape of the pepper, produced fruit that was dark purple.
What struck me most about this plant was the leaves. This particular plant has variegated leaves, which means that the leaves contain streaks or blotches of another color, in this case white. Though I have grown many varieties of peppers and though I currently have seeds for over 400 different strains, I have never had a pepper plant like this before. Just look at how beautiful the leaves are in the breeze.
Another interesting thing about this plant is that I believe it was originally from last year. I think someone overwintered it in a post and now chose to sell it. That means it will grow bigger faster this year and produce even more peppers. Even more peppers means that I'll have even more seeds to share next year.

apart from you and your following, how much call is there for peppers in the USA?. You could corner the market, buy the next farm and become Mr Pepper for the entire USA.

Seeds for 400 different varieties of peppers? Wow! I'm curious, it looks like you have a lot of land to plant on, how many different varieties do you plant in a year?
I'll be working on more as I progress. Usually about 20 main kinds though.

The flowers certainly look nice, but really I don't like white leaves.
I just think it is neat because every other pepper I have had either purple or green leaves.
