A quick glimpse on EOS ico

A week after beginning, the ico of EOS tokens is going on successfully: the first window of 5 days received  651,902.18 ETH, that are approximately  $175,092,288.05 for 200 millions of EOS tokens distributed. It is the greatest start ever for a cryptocurrency and the project behind it. And it is just the beginning, since the ico will go on for a year, releasing 2millions tokens for day. The 2nd and 3rd window got   12,493.19 and 38,480 ETH (the 3rd is not closed yet while I write this post).

The price for 1 EOS, after the 1st 5 days window, was around 0,0032 ETH (about 0.9$). After those 5 day, the 200,000,000 tokens released in the first ico window has been claimed by the buyers, so EOS arrived in the open market. From this moment forward, with the ico still running for a year, there will be the price on the market and the price in the ico window. The price in each ico window results from the ratio of the released tokens to the amount of ETH put in that window

So, at the moment (source: http://eosscan.io/):

1st window:    200,000,000 EOS    651,902.18 ETH    Price: 0.0032 ETH

2nd window:   2,000,000 EOS         12,493.19 ETH        Price: 0.0062 ETH

3rd window:   2,000,000 EOS          38,480     ETH        Price: 0.0172 ETH

The price on the open market, according with the first exchange websites that implemented EOS, is on the same trend. For example,

Of course, the price in the ico follows the price on the market, not the other way around. I mean, people buy in the ico just till the price is under the open-market price, because it is worthy. Even if one wants to buy for a quick speculation, there is no reason for buying in the ico if the price is higher - the only reason could be a shortage of circulating tokens, but, hey, they already released 204,000,000 millions tokens! But, yes, the shortage of tokens could take the price in the daily window higher than the market price, considering also that when you buy in the ico window you don't know the price that will result at the end of the window.

So, the point now - but I AM NOT a financial analyst! - is:  better to buy now or to wait some months for a future daily window? Of course I don't know the answer. The lacking data, for me, is if such a large capitalization in a year (at the moment it is expected to arrive beyond 2 billions $) can saturate the market, even if the market expectatins seems to be really positive for this project.

I think a better point of view there will be when the beta of the EOS software will be released (I think it will be in a month or two, if I read the Slack correctly).

Sort:

I just spoke with someone this morning who purchased on day one and is already selling as he made a great profit.

I also read through this thread:

Then there is this to consider:

Personally I will be waiting but I could be WRONG!

thx @kus-knee! I'm buying some bitshare too.
I bought some EOS in the first day but I am going to keep them at least for some months!

I probably would have bought some but it was SO complicated! You're much smarter than me!

I'm really not. I just have more time to waste about it ;)

I'm a lille ant and I'm collecting some bitshare from months ^_^ About the Eos that I bought during the first ICO , I'll be waiting t sell ;)

You are a smart little ant!

I'm making the crypto world friendly and accessible for everybody by explaining acronyms and terms related to cryptocurrency. Here I found:

EOSAn ERC-20 token that may have no value
EOS.IOSoftware that can be configured based on an ERC-20 distribution
ICOInitial Coin Offering is a means of crowdfunding the release of a new cryptocurrency, the tokens being sold to raise money for technical development
ETHEthereum token

Please upvote for visibility. If there are any missing terms here you want to be added to the database, please comment, so I'll become better.

EOS - an ERC-20 token that may have no value
EOS.IO - software that can be configured based on an ERC-20 distribution

Please do not confuse the distribution tokens for the software.

Thanks. Updated and will use this definition.

Thanks for the quick write up Paolo, will use it for my own R&D!
Cheers!

Possibly worth investing either when there are a lot of tokens being released or later in the year, when interest on this will come down a bit... You'll get more value for your money in either case.

probably you are right. I think it depends on the performance that Eos and Eos tokens will achieve

Yes. Keywords here are EOS token not EOS in itself. It boils down to integrity of devs and how they can showcase it over time. It's worth wait and watch

Nice write up about eos, am keeping it for d long haul

I bought some in period #0 (The first 5 day window). I don't plan to sell though. I suspect having some processing power in the EOS blockchain will prove more valuable to techie like me than selling for a quick buck.

my point too :)

Nice.. where can I buy eos
