I walked up to the security guard with my usual half-smile plastered on my face, complying once again with proving my identity so that I could visit my mother.

This time was different. This time I was smuggling in contraband.

I dutifully reported my name and my soc sec number, then moved to stand in front of the camera that would verify all this info via facial recognition. My vaccination status was verified by a quick scan of the implant on my forearm.

I could feel my deodorant failing, and my mouth going dry.

Relief! I was zapped with a temporary epidural pass, and waved on through the detector, which did not recognize the contraband as such. I would have been banned forever if it had.

I got to my mother's floor, and buzzed for entry. I was told, via AI, to don the mask, the hazmat suit, the gloves, and to stand back three feet, and to raise my forearm, for approval to enter the ward.

The doors swung open. I was in!!!

"Hi Mom!"

"Did you bring them?" This, desperately.

"Yes yes right here" I whispered while I fumbled, off screen, through my purse.

"Give them to me!" almost too loud to escape detection!

I knew she couldn't eat the food in this place, but I figured she must not have eaten for days, the way she gobbled down those green beans.
