5 keys that will lead us to be better people

Generally speaking, in order to be a better and happier person, we must reinforce the positive aspects of our life and eradicate the negative ones. Be aware of the need for change and have the strength of will to initiate it, little by little, according to psychologist Covadonga Chaves, member of the Spanish Society of Positive Psychology.

In this sense, according to the specialist, in order to be a better person, it is important not only to wish for it, but also to act on it; in a concrete way, it is recommended that we create our own "work plan" that allows us to make the small changes that make a difference, and of which we should be proud and satisfied.

In this plan, according to positive psychology, it is recommended to include the following aspects:

1. Change of attitude. Privilege every day the positive moods and emotions: joy, laughter, satisfaction, interest, romantic love, elevation,"flow", as well as perform a small action that highlights them.

2. Assertiveness. Being assertive is more than knowing how to treat difficult people or cope with complex situations. It's a form of personal evolution. What we do is part of a longer and deeper evolutionary process, personal development is essential for anything you really want to achieve.

3. Healthy practices. Optimism, gratitude, sharing, volunteering, meditation, yoga, physical exercise or artistic expression are activities that allow us to improve our physical, mental and emotional health. Choosing and performing more than three of them a week allows us to reprogram our brain and feelings towards a better quality of life.

4. Decrease importance to the material. Happiness has no connection with material possessions. The only secure belonging that we must take care of is that of the "self". Learning to live with what you have and value the details is a much more valuable source than money.

5. Do what you love. It may sound trite, however, according to a study published by the U. S. National Centers for Health (NIH), there is a higher prevalence of premature deaths in adults who are unhappy with their jobs or labors. To be a better person, choose to do what allows you to grow personally and professionally.

There are many strategies and advice for being a better person; however, according to the Spanish Society of Positive Psychology, one of the main keys is to keep in mind that happiness is a subjective state of well-being, so that being a better person may not always be synonymous with being happy.
It is a question, then, of enjoying those things that make us feel better with ourselves, with the rest of the world and in our interpersonal relationships.
