Madu Church In Mannar

Madu Church, located in Mannar, SriLanka is a famous Roman Catholic Church. It is a popular place among not only Catholics, but also among non-catholics. Most importanty it bears a historical significance. The church is dedicated to the Our Lady Of Madu.

It is one of the oldest and most visited churches in SriLanka. It is a go-to place for pilgrims annually. We also go there as a pilgrimage and when we were little it happened once a year. It is a different feeling and also each and everytime gives us a variety of experiences.

The church has renovated recently and it is located in a peaceful area surrounded with trees. Even though the weather in Mannar is normally hot and difficult, the environment where the church located is rather different. It has a large property for the church.

Madu church plays a leading role as a pilgrimage site for Catholics in SriLanka. People visit there to pray for blessings. From here it is a long journey for us to Mannar. It was never being a one-day journey for us as a ritual. There are small houses made around the church's property with facilities to accomadate the pilgrims. We have to pay for the house and can stay there till we leave.
