Annual Church Feast

Usually, once a year there is a church feast in a church. Every church has specifically sacrificed to a saint. The church feast holds accordingly around the days of the saint's feast.

Our church is sacrificed to St.Philipnery and it was the annual church feast time. Usually, the youth around the area is involved in main things related to the feast. Annually a new gang of youngsters is added to the committees and societies and they do their job really well.

On the feast day there is a morning mass and then a mass in the evening as a norm. In the evening, the statue of the saint is carried around the area belong to the church as a blessing to the village and the people. People also walk with the statue to the church. As a norm then there is the final blessing moment at the church.

This time it had arranged immensely. We did not attend the morning mass. But the statue was supposed to go in front of our home. Normally, we clean and decorate the sides of the road as a welcome.

This time the route of bringing the statue was covering the whole belonging area of the church. Our home also a bit far from the church and located around the margin of a side.

The perahara was supposed to come around 5 pm. But it was late and it went by ours around 6-7 pm. We joined it and walked to the church. The statue bringing vehicle was decorated beautifully.

The sides of the roads had decorated with a variety of colours and decos from an area to area. There were small pantheons in some places we passed. Also a large pantheon made of coconut was there at the main entrance of the church.

It was a long route and we reached the church around 10 pm. There was a small rain from time to time and then started to rain hard when we were near the church. We got wet on the way.

It took some time to manage under the rainy weather. After the prayers and blessings we came home.
