A sea of colour
Oil and water
I've been drawing a sea of colour using a watercolour resist technique of combining watercolours with oil pastel. I used the same technique in my previous post Little Houses.
I built up coloured lines on paper with the oil pastel before adding watercolours, the watercolours resist the areas of the paper where the oil pastel is.
You can see how the watercolour sits on top of the oil pastel, I could wipe this off at this stage but I like the effect of it drying on top of the oil pastels.
For the final touch I used white acrylic paint to add a small boat with three figures and white highlights on the water.
Vibrant and colorful indeed.
Hey did you steal my kids art project? His 1st grade teacher posted a photo of you in the lounge! :P
Wow, so colorful and beautiful! Resteemed!
what a very interesting technique.
Another colorful post :) Does watercolor actually dry and stick? Or some of it does fall away after drying out actually? P.S. Boat touch was so cute :) Such a small detail that adds so much to the image :)
It always stays for me- I imagine if you wet it again it would come away. I think something like a gouache would flake off.
Wonderful painting! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Ooo love this! I haven't worked with oil pastels in ages.
Give it a go!
Wish i had your skills ...
This is a pretty simple technique, why not give it a try?
Good job on mixing mediums together to create that effect. I also like how you used white to highlight the boat and used lines to signify the motion of the page and the reflection of the boat against the sun. And nice use of scale to create an illusion of space.
Thank you very much for this reading of the image.
framing is everything. nice.
Thank you @teamhumble!
