Random Thoughts: Those Cats At PetSmart!

     This past weekend I had to make a trip to PetSmart. I arrived just after they opened. As an animal lover, it's impossible for me to go into PetSmart without visiting the animals there.

     The first visit is with the birds. They have small ones like parakeets and finches. I'll whistle good morning to them and listen to their song for a few minutes. I then go around to see the hamsters and field mice. They seem very shy. Always hiding under those wood shavings. They are very cute, though. Another good morning to them and it off to see the kitties!

     The cats at PetSmart are available for adoption through local shelters. They are not kitten mill cats. Normally when I'm at this store, there's a volunteer attending to the cats. However, on this snowy morn, there was nobody there. Was it because of the weather? I don't know. But every cat(and I mean every) was looking at me and meowing at me. They didn't seem distressed. Actually, quite the opposite. They seemed happy to see somebody. Normally, they barely pay attention to me. But these cats were meowing and doing that thing were they roll over onto their backs. When I touched the glass, one cat kept trying to bat my finger with his paw.

     That first volunteer shift in the morning has got to be the most important. Those cats needed someone to change their litter boxes. Someone to clean and refill their food and water. Most importantly, they needed some exercise and affection.

     It breaks my heart when I have to leave and I can't take all of them with me. This morning was especially tough. That's why I grabbed a volunteer sign up sheet before leaving. One of the things I would do if I ever won the lottery is build an animal sanctuary. I now know that if I ever make enough money with Steemit, I'll do the same thing. How sweet would it be to walk into PetSmart and take all of those kitties home with me. 😺
