Street 1905 In Fort Edmonton- Part I
I have so many great shots of pre-war Edmonton. One post will not be enough to properly introduce the town transferring to a city.
So let's start with the first one.
This is how the busy street back in the times looks like. Except for wardrobe of the visitors, but close enough.
Transportation was well established at the time. And they had wooden sidewalks for pedestrians. It was a funny experience.
You can actually book a room and sleep over in the hotel if you really want a real time travel.
The actor in the bank didn't want to give me the money when I showed him my debit card. And had no clue what the ATM is.
Nice little shop with an authentically dressed lady.
And the fire hall with the red beast inside. Check this out:
The church from inside.
And this street banner which could be transferred to the today's city center of Edmonton. Very actual 100 years later.
You can't find this kind of gardens in the city today. Just well-maintained lawns with green grass and dandelions, eh?
Stay tuned for part II
Even with all of today's conveniences, looking at the way people lived around the turn of the century, sometimes looks so much more pleasant. Granted streets full of mud and horse dung would probably change my opinion real quick.
Probably that's why they built wooden sidewalks.
Wow this place is super cool ! Really must feel like traveling in time . If you would have been able to withdraw some money from the back then I think you should have bought that blue car - it's really a beauty !
And it would cost just a couple of hundreds, he, he. Sweet.
Hahah exactly what I was thinking ! Your money would get you quite far hehe
Some of us are still gardening @oldtimer. Nice adventure there.

Hahaha I did 2 months ago. Ed's not quite an oldtimer yet!
I do dream of gardens like that though...
It seems to me that the last picture poses one of the greatest differences of the modern kind.
However, like everything that is depicted here.
I like this post.
Thanks.
Awesome the blue car is out and about town. I love the rail car and the fire station. Also, the billboards promoting Edmonton are very cool.
It looks very authentic, indeed.
Nice post , I like the vintage car I think that both of the houses Rutherford had built are interesting in different ways. I do like the simple but elegant lines of the Edwardian style after the clutter of the Victorian era, but there’s something to be said for excellent wallpapers!
I really also like the simplicity of Brownies. I get a kick out of seeing photographs of photographers “shooting from the hip” with them! As you say, they’re not held up to the face. The little viewfinder squares/bulbs are really nifty to look through.
I like that red beast inside fire hall. Nice clicks @oldtimer
