Walk Around Monticello

Let's take a stroll around the grounds at Monticello.

Monticello was the home that was designed and built for Thomas Jefferson. Why look, here is he now.

As it is a mountaintop home, there are plenty of stairs and grades to overcome!!

The views in every direction are impressive!

There were extensive gardens that would have been worked sadly by slave labor.

I must say this post was inspired by Wednesday Walk, so a big shout out to @tattoodjay for doing a great job hosting it every week. Always a pleasure to post to it.

This is the front entrance to the residence.

The iconic view is commonly referred to as the nickel view, which is the back of the home...

Contrasted with the usual slave home cabin...

What a great #WednesdayWalk post that was! I can only imagine how much it would cost to build Monticello now! An interesting place and they have really kept it up quite nicely.

There are no pictures inside, is that right?

Thank you for showing off a piece of our history in the United States. I think it is important for us to know all about it, so we never repeat out mistakes again.

Upped and will steem tomorrow

!tip

Yes correct there are no pics inside which is kind of a bummer.

Yes we made mistakes in the past. I had made a decent video contrasting Jefferson's ornate grave with that of the slaves graveyard with no makers. Sadly I made a rookie mistake and had left the camera on manual focus and not autofocus, hence the whole video had to be binned.

Such an interesting place with so much history of course a mix of good and bad

Thanks for JOining Wednesday Walk and being an active Member of SteemUSA !tip

Yes history and life is usually a mix of good and bad it seems!

Yes indeed that is so true

Thanks for sharing! So this is the home of Thomas Jefferson! That Slave house is very tiny with very interesting roof!

Beautiful place, and I imagine it was more impressive in-person than the photos reveal! Love those flowers! 😃

That home cabin looks well kept all these years.

The phrase, "hauntingly beautiful" came to mind whilst perusing your photos. They invoke much the same feelings I had when our family visited Gettysburg a few years back. Come to think of it, I don't believe I've ever shared those photos before - I may have to do a Wednesday Walk like this some day soon. Thanks for the inspiration, @old-guy-photos. 😊

Oh yes I would like to see those. Yes I totally know the feeling. There can be such peacefulness where there was once such violence!

I understand he grew and was a believer of cannabis.
