The cycle of life...

Much of the tree looked healthy, but if some of it is diseased, it becomes a hazard to the public.

The health of our trees in Vancouver is really important too. We have quite a few old giants lining our streets. And since we are right on the water, we get a lot of Pacific rain and wind storms. When one of those old guys fall, it can be seriously dangerous and super inconvenient. They take out cars, front room, and power lines all the time. So sad too when they fall, a little ecosystem is radically changed. But then the remains become a nursery for new life or firewood. Love the huckleberries that will often grow on the stumps. Some really nice shots, this Tree Tuesday, Paul. You and nature both are an artist.

I agree it is sad. It is less sad at least because in this case there was a reason for it to be cut down. What really gets me most is when people cut down a perfectly healthy tree for no good reason (IMO). You know, they just want a change so a decades old beautiful tree has to go.

Great to see you around Pryde :)

Yeah, I do not get that. I think a tree gets more and more beautiful and interesting, the older it gets. Moss and lichen set in, bark differentiates and forms patterns, and more foliage is offered. I guess sometimes people cut them down when building and developing. At least in Vancouver, it is a law that trees must be preserved if at all possible and if not replaced.

I like the bend on the first photo.

There is even some interesting shots when a tree is dead. Dead tree art.

Truth! I always find some strange beauty in decay.

Even healthy trees can snap during storms. Absolutely necessary to cut down the diseased ones.
