Things required from the husband to be

Yes in my community, there are so many things and so many gifts to be given by the groom to the family and village he is coming to marry, and some of those gifts include the gift to the umu ada, gift for umu nna,the general gift(nmepu uzo),and the bride price.now I will list all these things to you:

  • Bottles of hot
  • Kola nuts
  • Cartoons of assorted drinks both soft drinks and beer.
  • Tobacco
  • One goat
  • Cash for the bride price
  • Gift for umu Ada.
  • Gifts for the parents.

How us the actual marriage performed

Wow,this is such a nice contest as there are some things to do before the other in traditional marriage, now I will highlight them to you from point to point so that you can really understand them.

Now,there are something's to do before trying to go into a marriage in our hometown as there are one or two investigation to be done by both parents so as to know if the family they are entrying are quite good for their children and after the investigation they will now decide on what to and that is whether to drop the marriage or to carry it one.

  • The first introduction and that is knocking on the door.

  • The both parents investigating on the family background of both.

  • The visit to the groom's home for the ask of the list(ihe isi nwanyi)

  • The negotiation if the bride price by both parents.

  • Now the traditional weeding can take place.

Now during the marry, the groom's will have to travel to the groom's village on the day of the occasion with his family members,he will be on his senator of other native wears, then when they arrive, the occasion will ki k of and on the way,the bride will be given a plan wine in a cup,and told by the elders to go and fish out her husband because they don't know the person.
When she carries the cup around, other people will be telling her to bring the wine and then she will refuse because if she gives it to another person, that person is automatically her husband.
When she located her husband,he will drink the wine and put a money inside her cup and then they will both nice to the bride's parents so as to receive their blessings, after that it is now time to eat and drink and then everyone will have fun as their will be also a dance from the women of the community.

Type of food,music and clothes

During this very occasion their is many types of food served and I will list them to you:

  • Yam and pumpkin sauce

  • Jellof rice

  • Ofe uha

  • Ofe egusi(melon soup)

  • Ofe ukasi

  • Ofe ode(tatasi soup)

When it comes to the type of musice they play,I can equally say that they usually play music of the tradition like osadebe,Paulson kalu and other local songs.

When it comes to the clothes the couples where, they are usually on a natuev wear like chief tency, then the bride on rapper.

My village is really a good place to get married as the parents really play a good role when they know that there inlaw those not have much money to pay for all these things, then they will wipe away their part of the gifts to be given to them only to see that after the weeding their child will be taken good care of and also to see that the upcoming offspring will have joy in their father's house.
Traditional marriage is really amazing and I can say that it is better than the one of the town.

Conclusion

Thank you for visiting my blog and also reading through my post,I know you found it interesting and nice to read through my post so as to know the different ways things are been done in my town.
They do things according to the custom of Igbo people and they don't make things more costly for their inlaw compared to what others request.
