On SteemHunt : The Art Of Curation 2

in #steemhunt6 years ago

In my first post about Steem Hunt The Art Of Curation , I gave an Insight about the origins of the project and they idealogy that is behind It

Steemit has achiveved the Status as the Major Gateway front end of the Steem Blockchain and with time people who come onboard it have gotten access to other front ends that they may also like to Interact on based on their preferences

In the race for more front ends, we should not neglect the need for excellence of conduct.

Most Steemians see new front ends as an opportunity to cut away from the noise on Steemit, a place where they can take advantage of limited traffic and earn more for their activity

That desire on its own is not bad, but when exploring those platforms, you major aim should be to add value and help accelerate growth

The Steem Reward pool is at the center of daily controversies on this platform, there are people who believe that some frontends should not exist, that there are just new dumping grounds for people who pump out poorly thought out content.

This post however is not about other front ends, this post is focusing on the Steem Hunt Front ends in particular.

I am writing this post with the idea that you already know about Steem Hunt, if not read my first post in the art of curation series HERE. In that post I talked about the origins of Steem Hunt and also the challenges it is currently facing.

This post is a continuation of that post, I will be addressing what I have noticed on both the Steem Hunt site and also their discord server and my two cents on them

On Hunters

One thing that I have observed is that most hunters have not taken out time to really study Steem Hunt to find out what it is really is

Someone described Steem Hunt as a place where people just write lines about a product that they found online and end up being rewarded for it. From that Statement, it is obvious that the person does not know what Steem Hunt is all about

If you dig deeper especially by following the post of a SteemHunt Guardian @fknmayhem, you will find out that SteemHunt is not a Writing Curation Project, neither is a a place where anything goes, You really have to write a Comprehensive Post that has direction and value

Most just see it as a place where you can get your hands on some more Steem. Considering that it is a project that houses over 1 Million Steem Power, the attention that it is getting is very high.

So you see hundreds of Hunts daily that turns out to be rejected. Out of the hundreds of Hunts made daily more than 30% does not meet the standards of the Platform , and this is because people don't read guidelines they just hunt and expect a Steem Hunt Upvote

I have seen people who make the Hunts from their Steemit blogs and use the SteemHunt tag and expect the post to automatically appear on the Steem Hunt site

I have also seen people who only join the Discord server after they have had issues with their Hunt post, while joining the Discord server should have been their first point of duty so as to familarise themselves with the project

Some hunters make it a habit to leave Mass Spam review comment that has nothing to with the product they are making those comments on ,and with the Blacklist came the massive Spam accounts, thanks to @superoo7 whose programs are limitng the surge of Spam comments

On Hunters and Moderators

Now this is where the rubber meets the road. Steem Hunt moderators are the ones who are charged with the responsibility of reviewing hunts that are posted on Steem Hunt on a daily basis

It is not an easy job as those who are really observant in the community can attest to the level of work load they have to face on a daily basis

I have seen Hunters who berate Moderators after they are told to make modifications to their posts, when it was obviosuly clear that they broke the Rules. Anyone can make a mistake, what matters is what you do to correct that mistake after you have been corrected

You also have to realise the fact that the Moderators are Human beings who have lives outside Steem Hunt and it is not always possible to have them at your beck and Call

I once saw a Hunter make a bad comment about a Mod in a new Hunt post based on what happened in the past, that negativity will not lead You anywhere, once Issues has been settled it is better for you to let it go

On Influencers

The Influencer program was Introduced by @tabris and @project7 to futher bring fairness to the Steem Hunt platform

It was Introduced to supplement the Account Base Voting (ABV) and also the Diversity Score ratio which are all Initiatives which works to ensure that the very best Hunts make it to the top of the rankings

Since the Influencer program has been Introduced there have been a significant Improvement to the quality of Hunts that make it to the Top Ten, more and more Cool Hunts make it to the top

Influencers have 5 times voting weight on the Steem Hunt platform so they have a huge Impact on the product rankings. The selection for Influncers is very diversified and also the Influencers are constantly monitored to ensure that they don't abuse their power

As expected there have been some complains about Influencers as some Hunters have come forward to blame them of using their power to favour Hunts that don't deserve to make it to the Top of the rankings, some even went as far as flagging the review comments of Influencers

The accusatioins have been mere speculations so far as no one has stepped forward with any proof of collusion.

There have been always challenges in the race for excellence on the Steem Hunt platform, and I will advise Hunters who are really concerned about the Platform to bring up solutions to the issues at hand rather than tearing down structures that the Team is putting in place to ensure progress

A vital thing you have to do is to find out what Steem Hunts means to you. Even though it looks nice to earn huge amounts of Steem on a daily basis, who wouldn't like to rank top on a daily basis, but at what cost would that come to You

I have seen some respectable Steemians get blacklisted for breaking the rules and I can say that it is not healthy for your personal brand on this platform, your name might eventually leave the Blacklist but it will be hard for you to erase the percepetion that comes with that in people's mind

No matter how the Steem Blockchain may look unfair to you, I have found out that those who toe the path of excellence always gets rewarded. You just have to master the art of delayed gratification and work on building your legacy the right way

I have always said it that not all your rewards on this platform will come from the reward pool, there are certain opportunities that will come your way based on what you have been able to carve out for yourself. The ByteBall Airdrop is an example. people got rewards based on their Reputation, those who were constantly getting flagged for abuse lost out because of their lower Reputation

Reputation is what is going to bring your long term value and not cutting corners, and for those who run voting pools to game the system, when people there get real opportunites they will not call on you because they have seen you as someone whom would be dishonest and they will want to look for a trustworthy person

Nice write up, SteemHunt are still at early phase, so I guess abuse are expected, I am glad that the developer are able to fight against abuse in a rapid and responsive manner. HUNTS ON!
