Miniature Australian Shepherds
I just want to introduce my pups, they are two miniature Aussies. Both are red merles (that's the coloration) and both share the same mother, from different litters. (Breeding Disclaimer below)
Nugget and Sir Douglas Tiny Pants, or just Doug.
I absolutely adore these two. I love the Aussie personality, their loyalty, and the uniqueness of the breed. The miniatures are technically now called Miniature American Shepherds because they were first bred down, from the Standard size Aussies, in California. So they are the exact same breed as the larger, standard size, just in a smaller package.
There is also a toy classification, which Doug borders on. And then there's Nugget...he is technically neither mini nor a standard. I call him an Australian In Between Shepherd. He's only a couple pounds heavier than Doug, however he's at least 5in. taller.
They are great little travelers. I truly do wish I could take them everywhere with me.
Doug's favorite things: Begging for treats like a jerk, Babies, and sitting next to anyone on a couch.
Nugget's favorite things: Having his butt touched, rubbed, scratched, bopped, etc. and the dog park.
Breeding Disclaimer
So I feel like I need to put this in here. I got these pups before I really understood the impact of "Adopt, Don't Shop." I'll never purchase another dog from a breeder or store. Why? There are so many homeless and misplaced pets that are AMAZING and just looking for a good home. We (that includes me) perpetuate this cycle by keeping breeders in business. And it's a proven fact that mixed breeds actually have less breed specific issues. Mother Nature knows what it's doing. We continue to breed the "favorable" traits, not understanding that we're destroying the health of these animals. One example of this is the English Bulldog. Breeders and enthusiasts covet them for having large heads. We have bred the heads so large that female bulldogs are no longer able to give live birth- it would kill them!! It's also given the breed a laundry list of health issues, to include cardiac issues, respiratory disease, cherry eye, and hip dysplasia to name a few.
To make a long story longer, I am one of these hypocritical people, I know. However we do have the opportunity to change our decisions for he future.
Thanks for checking out my pups!!
Your dogs are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing all of their breed information, I'd actually never heard of Australian Shepherds before. Have seen them around here just didn't know what they were called...now I do :)
They look so adorable I wanna hug and kiss them if I can only touch them. =)
I have two cats and they want to be rubbed too and so clingy they can't get enough and very playful as well. =)
Thank you! I am the same way- I want to pet ALL the animals!
AHHHH Best post ever. Love those guys.
funny dogs for sure
Do you have Aussies? They are funny. Especially when they give that "side eye" glance!
