Old, discoloured, and damaged, but still hungry

Butterflies grow old too:

Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/250s

It is a bit hard to identify in this state, but I think it is a common blue (Polyommatus icarus), icarusblauwtje in Dutch.

I'm not sure if the discolouration is a sign of old age or if it is a normal variation, as I have seen a similarly coloured younger specimen around the same place some time ago:

Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/320s

They are usually more colourful from the side, as you can see here (the top one is a male, the bottom one female):

Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO100, f8, 1/160s

I could just have misidentified them, of course.

Thanks for watching!

Your photos are superb. You have captured the right moment. Bravo.

Hm... Looking normal to me :D Good shots!

Nice post buddy

Like delicate works of art.

Old, or not, they still look pretty in your shots. I wonder how much does one live on average...

This species has a lifespan of about three weeks as a butterfly.

I knew it was kinda short...and yeah 3 weeks is not much really.

wow so nice picture.....

This butterfly sitting on colorful flowers is probably expecting to get its color back by eating from it. And the Butterfly couple does not need any explanation it is clear why they are colorful. They are in love!

He doesn't look old (but I don't know much about butterflies). Maybe it is some different variety...

Thanks for sharing nice info...
