Digibyte the one that bit me
Sometimes my speculations fail badly.
Buying at the top of an upward trend with bitmoney made with posting at Steem.
It is not always gold that glitters.
Blockchain blogging at Steem is about life, it is a binary recorded journal, my digital recording of events. And that has its ups and downs, just like the cryptocurrency market. Lately that has been made very clear to many cryptos users. One minute it could go way over 116 billion US Dollar total market capacity, the next it is down 21 percent. The sudden high 24 hour trading volume often gives it away, but who has the time to watch that with the focus and response speed of a cheetah? Well, I for sure am bad at short- to midterm selling and buying. So my cryptos focus is longterm, with a portfolio to match. Upto a certain point that is true, yet sometimes I fail big time.
If I have a click with a certain crypto I will buy it with my longterm portfolio in mind. Although I also do keep some cryptos change, to pay some unforseen bills for instance. Like the vet costs for one of our kittens recently. With Bitcoin and Litecoin I still am doing very good longterm wise. And of course with Steem I have a great amount of value locked away in Steem Power. Even though it dropped a bit lately due to the current unrest on the cryptos market, I still do remember when it was as low as 7 USD cents. Just to put things in perspective. Also I have to state that Steem, so far, has been the best Fruit Of Work {FOW}mining for me. In contrast to cryptos I have been mining that were worth nada, njente, noppes...
Digibyte one of the three Segwiteers
Together with Vertcoin {VTC} and Litecoin {LTC}, Digibyte {DGB} was one of the first to go SegWit. Ready for the future, hurray for the three SegWiteers! Well, one would think this would be received with cheers, fun and laughter, the next future step is here! Then the silence, it almost was so loud I went completely deaf. Because the focus went to... Bitcoin and the dogfight they had over there. And even now they seem to have come to an agreement, some mining guilds seem to have lost their minds! Ah well, let them fight, where two dogs fight over a bone, the third dog will have a diner. And that would mean that the three Segwiteers would get a boost beyond belief! Well, they did of course, but far less than I was expecting. Yet, I almost forgot about the delusion some Bitcoin {BTC} fanatics seem to have that there can be only one. One crypto to rule them all...?
Aside from that, I did buy a lot of Digibyte at the wrong moment. For a part because I really was thinking the 3 Segwitketeers would move upwards into to charts a lot. And Steem would get recognised as being real value because of all the posts that were on its blockchain. That is the real value of Steem. There is actually time, effort and energy put into that blockchain, so it should be at least 12 USD per Steem soon! Anyway, back on the subject, I was expecting for Digibyte to rocket, thanks to SegWit activation, and I had the click with it. Because of all that I was doodling with a logo idea for Digibyte. It deserved one, maybe not by my hand, but a new one, to refresh, to celebrate it went SegWit! And I bought at the highest top of green, DGB for the longterm! Used all my current Steem Backed Dollar earnings for that...
Almost right after I bought DGB...
There it went, down the slope, just like that! Hardly had the Digibyte I bought in my longterm wallet as I saw how it dropped and dropped. There it went, the Fruit Of Work {FOW}, into thin air, it lost 68% in value until recently. Was it the Fear Of Missing Out {FOMO} to blame? No, I really was convinced that it would make sense that the SetWit activated cryptos would go up in value. But sometimes logic and reason cannot argue with feelings or a believe system. Just like I thought the news that Litecon will get the Omni layer on top, including USD Tether, would wake up everybody. But belief paradigms seem hard to shift. And we at Steem know about that, but in the longer run it proved itself, just as it will gain in value more as time goes by. Like I wrote before: 12 USD next ceiling for Steem...
So, I made a bold move in buying Digibyte at the top of its growth. That is looking back afterwards and it is easy to conclude that I might have made a mistake. Because I even held on to my DGB when it dropped to half its value at what I bought it for. And I still held on even when it went down further. Why? Well because I expect that at some point many more will understand that Litecoin slowly is taking over part of the function Bitcoin was supposed to have. And that Litecoin is ready for the future, just like the other two SegWiteers: Vertcoin and Digibyte. They will be the first to get to the Lightning network, while Bitcoin was supposed too! Therefore I am still confident that in the longterm holding LTC, VTC and DGB will prove me right.
And to make it clear how powerfull Steem is, like Bitshares. The Steem blockchain puts more transactions through in a day than Bitcoin and Ethereum can do together! Just to put things in perspective. The Bitshares and Steem blockchain relative EOS will even go beyond imagination! And the EOS software code can be used again by Bitshares and Steem, to speed and scale it up even more. There is the biggest value I think. So either way, in the long run, my longterm investments are just fine.
Have a great one!

NOTE: Only invest what you are willing and able to lose. And your speculation might be a good or as bad as mine.
EDIT: text corrections.
Sometimes we get bitten, the other times we bite back! ;-)
Btw; I've been thinking, if Steem goed to 12 USD, then your 100% will be worth 40+ and mine 1,75+ which would be awesome!
That is true! =D
Wow, yes that would be so awesome! Even more fun upvoting. And that would also get more people in. Steem becoming more known. Higher demand for Steem on the cryptos market.
Top 3 in the cryptos charts, here we come!
This should be achivable for sure!
I'm looking forward to this moment!
Me too! :-)
I've believed in Digibyte since 2014. I consentrated all my cryptos into Digibyte in late 2014 or early 2015. Back then they were worth pretty much nothing. Now they are worth thousands, still after the crash. And I don't really care that it crashed. I think it will have another upward movement soon. The best would be if it would start moving up slowly so that idiots wouldn't buy in, in the hopes of quick profits.
At one point my digibyte was worth about $13 000, but I believe it will go much higher so I didn't sell, even though it was stable at that price for sometime. In it for the long run, like the devs.
For me DBG came really in sight in 2017. And I remember when it was worth next to nothing. The upwards movement I am expecting to happen too.
It might be better if it went up in a slow and steady pace. Still holding on to mine too, longterm.
Yeah for most Digibyte became known only this year. Which is very weird. That is why people panicked and thought that it is overvalued now. I think it wasn't. It has remained under the radar much longer than other currencies that have as good of a development team. The reason might be that Jared has been saying that they don't want to hype the currency since 2014. They already said in 2014 that their "short term goal" is 10 years of development to reach what they think is the potential of the blockchain and long term goals are to keep on developing it. Can't say many other currencies think 10 years in to the future when they start.
long termmmm ;)
Absolutely Ivy! :-)
Thanks for all that really useful advice, much appreciated.
I'm new to steem and cyrptocurrencies in fact II don't even use social media that much. But i am keen and eager to learn
You're very welcome!
This is the best place to be for both social media and cryptos. There is much information around here about how Steem works, cryptos and much more.
There is a search function that comes in handy. And the fellow Steem members are always willing to be of help with answers.
Have a great time at Steem. Thank you for the ReSteem and following. Followed in return!
I've still got a few DGB from back then... Ah well, for now there's still a good chance for many coins to rise back up again, simply because most crypto's are still so volatile. I'm holding on!
Holding on myself. Doing my best to stay calm during all those market storms. :-)
Words to live by. Crypto or fiat
Absolutely, I did decide to invest all my earnings at that moment in DGB, with that in the back of my head.
I hope you keep them anyway, because I believe they will rocket, just like you do. I learned (the hard way) not to buy anything just because of some news. I always try to look at the technical charts. I had a buying order in place for weeks now and it triggered at exactly the right moment. I stored them in my long term wallet also. Digibyte is going places.
They are still safe and sound in my long term wallet. Digibyte is one of those cryptos I was expecting to rock. It still can, I'll leave them where they are.
I was thinking the same thing about DGB. Ended up buying some thinking I'd double up or more. Ended up selling for a small loss, moved those funds elsewhere. I guess I'm glad I did. Maybe try again soon.
If I sold now, or a while back, I would have had a big loss. Also there is this hunch, the gut feeling, the thing that tells me to hold on while longer...
Have quite a wide spread longterm porfolio and overall I am quite content with it. (Never thought I would write such a line...)
That gut feeling might be my stomache telling me to get lunch now.
I ditched out around 1250 satoshi, probably the most recent pump that went that high. Bought in around 1310, but watched it dip below 1200, held on, waited, gut told me to get the hell out. I always factor in losing a bit, it's part of the gamble, so I didn't mind. If it drops to the point of losing a lot, it's best to just hold. I still think it's going up.... I just didn't want to wait.
True, I have with a few, they dropped too much recently, so I am letting them stay at ease. Expecting the cryptos market as a whole to regain its upwards trend.
And speculation is a gamble for the biggest part. So I do indeed take the losses for grantage.
And always buy the news not the rumours...
After looking into digibyte's roadmaps, it clearly shows there is future for digibyte.
Keep holding, buy the dip, come back to this post and thank me at the end of the year.
I thought the sayin was: buy the rumour, sell the news...?
Not on 2nd week of june for the digibyte community lol
Then: sell in may and go away!
Buy in the end of june, you thank yourself soon! =D
That is absolutely true and even be carefull about the news and who is bringing it.
Will hold on, have quite the lot of them DGB already and now I want to get me some EOS first.
December 31, 2017, here. :-)
Sure and good luck, there are official digibyte accounts on twitter and telegram.
Incase you need any help, there is Emma, a digibyte bot on telegram who will assist you.
Whales are ready for rumours and dump on us.
Thank you @koya, I will at least follow the twitter account and I use Telegram also. So maybe I'll add that one too.
Always check (re)sources and think about it.
I did just about the same thing as you. Bought on the way up and never sold. Now I'm just along for the ride but I truly do believe in this coin. It has amazing potential.
We just have to be patient. ;-)
My first buy was at 450 sat, so not to worried about that part but I was fooling around with taking ten percent trades with my fool around money. Last trade of the day I tried digibyte at 2100 right before it plummeted and didn't flinch, I really wish I had.
Only because I like fooling around while I wait for the rocket ride to the moon.
Reasons why I still like Digibyte
So in short still a yodelling HODLering!
I'll HODL! :-)
