My First Cuban Sandwich, I Think
We were on a job last week down in South Florida and the client asked me what I would like for lunch. Since we were near Miami I though,
Hmmm.. I've always wanted to try a Cuban sandwich!
So that's what I asked for. I have never had a Cuban sandwich and have wanted to try one ever since I saw the movie Chef, which portrays a, wait for it, Chef. But this guy makes the most epic Cuban sandwiches apparently. By the end of the movie, all you want to do is eat one of these sandwiches.
I have to admit, what I received looks nothing like what the guy was serving in the movie. The presentation is not exactly very appealing.

To be fair, I took a bite of the sandwich and it tasted pretty good. I am just not fully convinced that this thing was an authentic Cuban. For one, I could swear that my sandwich was on pita bread. That doesn't seem very Cuban.
I don't know if any of my followers are Cuban, but if you are, what do you think? I think I am going to look around Los Angeles and see if I can find a good Cuban sandwich to compare.
The jury is still out on this one!

Well, that is good to know. Did the second photo look like a proper Cuban sandwich? I will have to keep looking!

Haha that is more like it. The one I got was in Ft Lauderdale. The fast food version I guess!
I am back in LA now. Maybe I can find a decent sandwich here somewhere. Not as many Cubans here though!
Mambos Cafe is close to you! I love that place and have a great Cuban sandwich. They have other yummy Cuban dishes too :)
Oh cool, yeah I see that. It is up in Glendale. I live as far south as you can get in LA so that is quite a ways up. But I will have to check it out next time we are up around the area.

I gotta say that the one from the movie chef looks absolutely incredible... especially me being hungry right now!
Well, glad you enjoyed it and a pita doesn’t seem Cuban to me.., but what do I know. At least you’ll be able to compare next time! )
Yeah, haha. I will have to try some more before making any judgements. The pita bread is very questionable.
Of course, the sandwich from the client looks less appetizing than in the movies, but as you say, the taste was good and I think it will be an excuse for the look!
